Hi there guys,
My friends and I have decided to give magic another try, and this time to take it more seriously and really put our hearts into it. We have finally decided to buy all the gear we need and have gone out over the last few weeks to shoot magic in public, what everyone calls street magic! The reason we decided to do this is because we realise that the most important thing about magic isn't really the amount of skill or the number of tricks you know (well, to us 2 years ago, all we cared about was skill), but the most important asset of a magician is his showmanship. This is why we decided to start doing street magic to really put our selves outside our comfort zone and approach strangers as an attempt to find our selves as performers and, more importantly, as magicians! So we hope to be able to get some feedback from you all over the coming years. Here is a little promo we made. Let us know what you all think! Not much to see yet, but still good to get any kind of feedback. YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8onJEGHACk PS. I've been reading this forum a lot for a few years now, and I've read about many great magicians on this forum and hope to be able to one day pick your brains a little! |

That was not what I expected at all - I liked it a lot! Looks great, and it's so refreshingly far from the "look what I can do" videos that tend to go around.

If you don't mind some comments from a film school grad...
Your film maker is very talented, and this is a nice showcase of his or her work. Having said that, it's too long. Too much of the same thing, I got tired of watching reaction shots and was waiting to actually see any sort of performance. Editing your own work is hard, you want to keep every good shot whether it adds to the work or not. This could definitely use another editing pass to tighten it. My second issue is just that all this is is reaction shots. If it's intended as a teaser promo, then that's okay, but it should be much shorter, as mentioned above. I'd say 3 to 5 reaction shots is all you need/should have, and I'd lean towards 3 unless you have five reactions that are so different they are all worth using. If it's intended as a showcase, you need to actually show us the thing you are showcasing-- the magic. One of my favorite shots actually was the fountain, just because it WASN'T another reaction shot.
It is always darkest just before you are eaten by a grue.

Truly superb - well done, guys!
Great content - to see people being made to smile, laugh and be happy with magic. Also, just the right length. Ignore the negative comments and continue with your project. Good luck! TGR
