I just finished watching this new release from dee, he sent me a pre release copy via a download.
I'm really impressed, those who know the uk scene for mentalism know of dee works from his ebooks, pieces at 3am is a particular fave of mine, and obviously the recent love it or hate it release of "machine". anyway, this download features some of the most cutting edge metal bending I have seen since banacheks pk silverware release. the effects in this download/dvd are some incredibly visual, modern thinking built for workers. dee works street/close up environments just like me, and from using his effect "syn" the coin bend featured on this dvd in the real world, I can attest to its strength,. this is just the tip of the iceberg tho, I wont spoil too much of the detail but you get about an hour of instruction and perfromance footage shot live in front of real people (no studio only effects here folks). also featured is his dead zone effect "loki" a great effect that can and has retailed by itself. http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=S12969 and I think dee is putting it on his site next, highly recommended for cutting edge metal work you will use. |

Btw I like machine !
Now the bending phase in metal is more and less the gallerian bend. Anyway it looks interesting.

Thanks for the words Dylan!
Parmenion, glad you liked Machine! While one of the bends uses the same kind of optical technique as Gallerian, the bends themselves are very different, the spoon is actually bend twice through that sequence, the spectator sees it bend 3 times! If anyone hasn't yet seen Erick's Gallerian, you can grab it here - http://www.magicshop.co.uk/p2145/Galleri......nfo.html It's FANTASTIC, so much so it was one of the only 3rd party items I used to stock on my store! I must note that this is a triple feature DVD, there's not just one spoon bending routine with many phases, like Liquid Metal, while you could use them together to a degree, there are THREE separate metal bending effects; QuickSilver, the two spoon bending routine, HDFCK, where you warp and twist a spoon in the spectator's hands in to something that's impossible to replicate and finally SYN, a dual coin bending routine. We also teach two versions of Loki, as Dylan mentioned, the standard routine that's in P@3AM and a version where you can predict the actions of the spectator instead of reading them after they've taken the chips. Hope that clears things up a bit! Best, DCx

I do a lot of spoon- and forkbending in my close-up performances and did it also once on national TV here in germany. I use the techniques of Gerry and Banachek from the DVD PK Silverware.
I must say that METAL helped me tremendously to bring my spoonbending routines to the next level. Christopher had some marvelous ideas to make at least my performance a LOT more visual. More than once I thought 'why didn't I have this idea? Why havn't I thought of this before??" while watching the DVD. Some of the techniques are simple but so effective! In my opinion this DVD gives detailed instructions for the beginner and a lot of fresh inspirations for the experienced performer. I would not be surprised if Uri Geller will use some of Christophers ideas in the future. After many disappointments of some other DVDs that popped on the market, Metal was definitely a highlight. So two thumps up! |

How is this any different from any of the other metal bending techniques out there?
I just didn't see anything new in terms of techniques. Presentational yes. The part of using another persons finger to push the bowl of the spoon is great! But the reveals all stem from the Optical Bend. |

Just got back from vacation and finally got to check out Dee Christopher's "Metal" thoroughly and really enjoyed it. I've been been bending metal for many years now, using ideas from a variety of people, including a few of my own, yet I found some interesting presentational ideas and bends. Dee teaches a nice invisible way to put the work on a spoon which is a good variation for other bends I use. The Gallerian bend is wonderful as well as using someone's finger to slowly bend the bowl of the spoon. I like to leave my silverware in all kinds of odd shapes and HDFCK is another idea I'll be using.
There's also a different effect, Loki, which some performers may not like, but it's an easy and wonderful impromptu method that can be used as an intro to stronger mental and psychological effects. At the end there's a very nice bonus spoon bending idea performed on P. Brook which is ingenious. Great job Dee and Titanas! Mauricio |
