Does anyone have a template of a contract that can be drawn up that is to be signed by the magician and the client hiring him.

Try the Business Side of Things forum; not sure if that's the right title, but there's a forum in here for just what you're asking about....seek and ye shall find....Smile
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? Smile

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

Unfortunately, contract law is state dependent.

Your best bet might be a nolo book. OR a plain English contract. These days the courts are perfectly willing to accept a plain language documetn as binding as long as it clearly spells out the responsibilities of both parties.

Edit: Or here is another thought... have you joined a professional magic society yet like the Sam or the IBM? I bet both have form contracts you can use, as well as things such as group liability insurance.
It is always darkest just before you are eaten by a grue.
