How good are the angles?
If you let the spectator examine the pen/straw/match and the Lens, will they be able to figure the trick out? |

Angles require that the person is looking down at the lens.
If there are people from several feet away that are not looking down at the lens, but from the side, the effect is not there and they will see stuff on the pen before they should. If you give them the lens and pen will they figure stuff out? Yes they will. |

Here is what I did: I made my own pens out of standard BIC and black Papermate pens. At the end of the routine, these can be handed out as souvenirs.
To make the lense examinable, you should look for the flat magnifying cards. They look exactly like the lense, and can be cut to match the size. I found mine at my local Barnes & Noble store for $4.99; both of those ideas were from the companion book, the name of which escapes my memory at the moment. I also store both in an identical business card sleeve. This requires a couple of switches but is worth the extra effort, especially for the reactions. I normally have them sign something or I perform Recap by Gregory Wilson with a regular pen that matches my twisted ones, then switch it out to continue with Reality Twister. As far as the angles are concerned, audience management is key. Get them in a circle around you if you are standing up. At a table, it is best performed for 3 or 4 people because of having to look straight down at it for clarity; angles are not a concern at that point. |
