There's one on ebay that must have just been listed this morning that I rather like the looks of and would consider buying myself (but I'm not buying any more figures right now). He has raising eyebrows and blinkers.

Ebay and Vent Central Classifieds are the way to go IF someone on this forum doesn't come through for you. There are currently about 3 figures on Ebay that would be nice to have and they are all under $500! It depends on what KIND of character you invision for your vent act. One of the figures is a Payes and I have read good and bad things about his creations (more good than bad I may add). IF you are looking for a girl figure, that will be a little harder to find. BEST of luck to you and let us know what happens in your quest. NOTE: you can always contact Clinton Detweiler and see what he has available too:o)

I don't know how those who have, or have ordered a Selberg (or from other figuremakers that may take some time) do it, it would make me crazy.
All of my figures, except my main one have been figures I found and liked and was able to just buy, my main figure was the only one I "ordered". His figuremaker and I had become good friends before then, and we emailed almost daily, talked on the phone here and there, so when he was making my figure for me, I'm inclined to think it was getting a bit more priority as it only took a few months if I recall correctly, and more importantly, I was getting constant updates in our regular communications. Even then, it was a long few months, so I can't imagine waiting a year or longer, and doing it with not much communication from the maker (but then I will also admit to being somewhat impatient when I want something).

We understand this problem thoroughly. We try to answer all Email questions within 4 hours, and we try to have no more than a 40 day delivery schedule from the time an order is confirmed. We exist for the Vent world, not the other way around!

When I ordered Cousin Cletus from Albert Alfaros, the wait was terrible BUT Albert finished and had him on his way to me 2 WEEKS AHEAD of schedule and his field manager kept in constant touch with me via emails with constant progress reports. Making these top notch vent figures is a real art and I think the wait is well worth it regardless of who the maker is. IMHO:o)

I agree about the wait being worth it, if I had to wait longer for the one I ordered, no matter how long it was, I would have thought him well worth the wait too once I got him.
But it still would have made me crazy in the meantime...

I got an Insull figure when I was a kid. I was about 12 when we ordered it, but because of Mr. Insull becoming ill during that time, I had to wait almost two years. Being so young two years was a very, very long time. The wait was agonizing. The ironic thing was, I didn't love that figure after I got him. He was very nice, well made and all, but I never really 'resonated' with him (as Philip put it). I parted with him in my early twenties when I wasn't interested in vent, and although I would like to have him now because of his actual value, I know I still wouldn't be inclined to perform with him.

I hate waiting but if it's from an established and well known maker/artist,I guess the value is there even if you don't 'resonate' with the figure. The worth is obtaining a masterpiece that will outlast you and in my case will fit well into my mini museum. However an update from the maker/artist on the progress would be a very nice and comforting touch.

FYI: there is a Kem Poyner "Bobby" vent figure for sale on Ebay RIGHT NOW for a $700 opening bid and NO reserve and there have been NO bids up to now. Kem's figures rarely come up for sale and I paid MORE than that for mine. I told the seller he should list the figure for at least 7 days longer IF he doesn't sell this time. Good looking figure that I just thought someone might be interested in. I am NOT the seller. My vent family is not for sale:o)
UPDATE: the "Bobby" figure did NOT SELL! If you are interested in him, I'd recommend contacting the seller directly through Ebay (search on "ventriloquist" and the select "completed auctions". I'm pretty sure the seller will relist the figure but who knows?? |

I'm betting that's the same one that's for sale on Dan's site in the classified section, they had also posted a note on worldvents about it being for sale.

So far I've collected a Paynes, two Selbergs (one has to wait for two years,so I heard),a Juro, two upgraded figures from Detweiler(Maher?),a Dan Lavender and a Bighead from Robert McRay(In the process) and one from an unknown maker.
Place my bid for a Steve Barry but still waiting.Supposed to have a Lovik but wasn't successful in getting that. Now I have to find money! Anyone wants a marionette or a puppet made?
