Just a heads-up; I got an instant message on Facebook a little while ago from someone I know via the Café and a few other places; he claimed to be stuck in the UK, had gotten robbed, etc. I figured it was a con pretty quickly, and that the person messaging me was not the actual FB friend. I got in touch with the correct party offline and let him know his account got hacked. I doubt too many people would fall for this, but just in case someone you know claims to need money sent ASAP via Western Union, assume it's a scam.

Earlier this year my account was hacked the same way. Even the UK robbery angle is the same. At least 2 friends got taken. Since I wasn't a FB regular it took me a few days to hear about it, and I cancelled my account immediately and never went back.

As soon as Diaspora ( https://joindiaspora.com/ )is publicly available I'll be putting my facebook account on 100% "lockdown and life support" and migrating all of my "social networking" needs to that platform. Who needs facebook?
