Very complex story, and difficult to parse without seeing the original data. Since the probability of surviving from age 65 to 85 has doubled, it may be that those who survived to 85 10 or 20 years ago were intrinsically much healthier than those "additional" folks who survive to age 85 today. So for the individual there has been no change: the healthy 65 year old still lives to a healthy 85. If you're an unhealthy 65 year old, your chances of living to 85, despite your ill health, are much better now than they were in the previous century.
Or something. Difficult to be sure based on an AARP press release alone . . . Woland |
