If something different works for you, then by all means go for it. Just don't get personal. There's no need for it.

I can't get personal because I do not know either of you fellows, but I believe I kept my comments generic, as I find this thinking very common in some magicians thinking.
I studied Ganson as well before Chavez, as well as Marlo, McBride, Kukuchi, Neil Foster, etc. The cards are a choice, but to say this is the best solution is not good advice. Regular cards are stiff, thick, cuts your fingers, and just a poor choice. |

Wmhegbli,
What I seem to hear from you is ...since you, in 30 years, cannot use regular cards those that do must just do it because "they care more about themselves...". Really??? I find them much better than most of the "manip cards" on the market and available everywhere. And thank you but I do care what the audience feels and sees. They are paying my bills. Bicycle (and other regular decks) are used by pros all the time. Use what you will but stop talking down what others use. Regular cards are a fine choice...just not for you. |

It seems that I am correct from the comments thus far, as it your ego getting in the way of your logic, and thinking I am speaking down to anyone. It seems your egos will not let you see both sides of an issue. Of course I have seen Jeff Sheridan on his DVDs using regular cards, I can understand his use of regular cards as a street performer.
To bad this got so far off topic. |

Cardini uses both regular and special cards. He uses the regular cards with a decorative back to be used for card fans. The other cards he uses for split fans. If it’s good enough for Cardini, then it’s good enough for me.
To end this argument, you can use whatever you want. The pros about the special manipulation cards are that you can produce a bigger fan with less. A bigger fan looks like a full deck and that’s what you usually want when you do split fans. You want to give the impression that you are producing a full deck. I know that there are those on here that can backpalm with a larger deck. All power to them. For me, I don’t because I have funny size hands. I will backpalm a full size fanning deck like Cardini, but I don’t show the palm of my hand for too long. I produce them and go into a fan routine. From there I might do the Big Five from the Chavez course because it’s a card production routine that doesn’t use split fans. To each there own. |

Okay, putting the ego thing aside for a moment... are there any online videos of someone using the Burton or Nielsen cards? Or any other manipulation cards? I looked at a couple of dealers, but didn't see any videos.

Hey, has anyone tried having a custom deck made up with a scale photo or scan of the back of their hand on the card backs - perhaps even with a ring on one of the fingers? If you could get that on thin cards, seems to me you'd have the ultimate backpalming cards. Just remember to drop them in a hat or ditch container after the productions, because if they fell on the floor it would look like you were shedding some serious skin.

Norm Nielsen uses Norm Nielsen Manipulation Cards in his act, he also uses his Palming Coins as well, that he had Gold Plated.
Lance Burton uses Lance Burton Manipulation Cards in his act. Julianna Chen uses her Manipulation Cards in her act. |

I was with Juliana one night when she started to practice. She opened a deck of poker-size Bicycle cards and could backpalm the whole deck. STRENGTH and PRACTICE she said.

I can backpalm a big pile of Bikes too - it's not particularly difficult - but you can tell exactly what's happening when I do it. If you can't make it invisible, then why bother? There's no effect.

That's the main point I was trying to make. Most of us can backpalm an entire deck, but can't make it invisible enough to keep the palm of the hand towards the audience for a considerable length of time. To add to what Max said, if you can make it invisible, then do it, but if there is a chance the audience will see something between your fingers, then use the thinner cards.
