I'm getting back to magic after a long absence. An old Dong trying to learn new tricks. I have a very basic question. Does anyone have a simple way of rolling silks for production? I Have been ironing 18 " silks for a couple of days but can't get them tight enough to A. Stay in one bundle and B fint in my hand. this come after a frustrating week of trying to tie knots in IT to make loops. Tough to get old. My wife thinks I'm nuts but I still find magic fun.

Mikame's Silk Producer will also work, which I believe is the same as the Abbott's Push-Out gimmick, which does not roll the silk. The cheap method is to wrap the silk in a figure eight around a pencil or wood dowel. Then tuck the end in to the folds. Slide off the stick. Or you could use the flag fold, or the flat fold, which would fit better in your hand. So many choices and of course these choices are all personal to each performer. It all depends if you want the silk to unfurl from the outside or inside of the roll. That is determined by the end you wish to have producing. Each give a different production effect. As for fitting in your hand, I cannot help you with that as it all depends on what you mean by fitting. Any of this depends on how you will be using it, as in a bare hand while holding something or straight bare hand production. What comes next or where is your hand going from there. |

I have not had a chance to get back on it. I've got some just about done. Maybe I can hustle out a couple of them.

Yes and No. I've already spent the money spent to go, inluding the dealer space. I remember once that Horace sold the entire Magifest display to a South American magician who was going through Akron 3 days before Magifest. Marie worked like crazy to get enough to make the display.

In the past I have used about a 2" elastic band around my wrist with a shoe string attached that connects to my belt loop. The silk was folded in such a way crimping the rubber band and the silk was tucked into the elastic band while the other end of the rubber band was placed around my middle finger creating a trigger. When my right arm was extended the silk was launched out of the elastic band and instantly fed to my right finger tips unfolding itself. This was taught to me by my mentor and friend Allan Rasco. I haven't done it in so long, I forgot how the fold went. It is a very beautiful production of a silk and very inexpensive to make.

I know this is an old thread. To answer a question, yes there should be a book on Silent Mora. Very sad how he spent his last years but is the case with many magicians unfortunately. Yes, there is some film of him working thought not the best.
