Very thoughtful review from Irving Quaint I would largely agree (how lazy) but might emphasize different observations.
The general vibe of “Spanish” magic as best as I can identify it was definitely present, very smooth. I liked Helter Skelter and 4 for four the most as quick, visual, impromptu tricks but they may be too similar to perform one following another or even in the same set. Moving forward, I unfortunately thought there was as much confusion as magic to some of the effects – the “Reset” variation for instance. The progressive sandwich effect does not seem very interesting or magical to me, not in Arron Fisher’s hands and not here. I think it is possible in this trick and maybe for some of the others that language issues prevented some of the “magical constructs” from being fully appreciated. It is clear that Helder gives much thought to this aspect of the performance. I like to think I can keep my magic eyes separate from my layman eyes and I enjoyed this disc more as a magician then as a layman. |

I really enjoyed this DVD and was even fooled a few times to boot! As others have stated, Helder handles cards beautifily and his routines flow together very well. Even if you don't use any of the routines as they are, the serious student will read between the lines and use the techniques, structure, etc and apply them to effects they already so, or even use them to create new ones.
The production quality from the box design to the menus is of the highest quality and one of the best produced magic DVD's I've seen! But why, oh why must magic producers include Easter Eggs in their DVD's? Maybe I'm missing something here, but unless you're 16, why would anyone want to have to spend time having to try and search for content that you've already paid for? I'm sure some will arguee that they are "extras" and are there as a bonus, but I still find it frsutrating none the less. AP. P.S. Can someone tell me how to find the Easter Eggs please? |

Yeah I have also looked and cannot find them, why not just list the effects rather than hide them??? can someone point me in the right direction to find the easter eggs?

Adam,
My sentiments exactly. I've really gotten bored with this whole easter egg thing. The same way I've gotten bored with that whole Shakey Cam / Street demo video look. Have you guys used the scene advance buttom on your remotes to find the easter eggs?

How about putting the DVD in the computer and using your mouse to scroll over the dvd screen to find the Easter Egg? I don't know as I don't have the DVD.

I have never wasted my time looking for Easter Eggs on DVDs.
I think the notion of going though the trouble of putting the blasted stuff on a DVD then HIDING it is stupid. Poor slobs like me are suppose to jump through hoops like a circus monkey to find the blasted things. I buy DVD's based on the stuff that ain't hidden, and that is fine with me. So what if I am missing out on some really cool stuff, I don't care. Good luck however to those who wish to out smart the Easter Bunny. RANT OVER.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Looks like somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed yesterday.
I'm gonna go place me order for this DVD, so I can feel better.

Hello!
Thanks for the comments and the opinions. I really like to listen to different opinions (good and bad) about my work. Every opinion is always well received. Just a few ideas about the "Easter Eggs": - It was my idea. - Some people like them, some people don't. - When you buy the DVD, you don't buy it for the Easter Eggs. That's just a Bonus. Period. - If you want to loose your time and try to find them, they you have a bonus. If you don't like to loose your time, it's ok with me. I like Easter Eggs and this is my DVD. Best regards, Helder |

Started to watch Red Mirror last night. Two points:
1. Great material! I'm currently at the stage that when I perform something for an audience I want to feel like I am not cheating the audience. Doing an effect with a Svengali just wouldn't give me the feeling that I fulfilled my part of the audience/performer obligation. I'm not saying using a Svengali is wrong just that isn't what I want to do right now. This has effects that fulfill this requirement for me. 2. I was a little concerned by the note at the beginning of the dvd. I'm note really sure if I have permission to preform the routines on this dvd or not. From my understanding I can use the routines for inspiration but not to perform them as-is. Bummer as these are great routines. |

The performance terms on the "note" at the beginning of the Red Mirror DVD are unenforceable unless they are clearly printed on the outside of the box. If they're not, they constitute a new and major term of the contract between the buyer and seller, which cannot be added after a sale is completed - at least in the USA. So from a legal perspective (and ethical, I would say, since you had no notice of the terms prior to payment), you should be safe performing the routines anywhere, if that's what you choose to do. However, if you wish to honor Helder Guimaraes' belatedly announced wishes, that's your choice as well.

I'm basically a hobbyist however it would have been nice to know about this before I purchased the dvd. I have plenty of books to learn routines from, enough to last several lifetimes, so not performing these routines isn't going to cause me a hardship. Yet I WAS under the impression when I paid for these that I was getting material that I could use so I feel a little cheated as far as that is concerned. I would like a clarification as to what exactly Helder meant though as I might not be understanding what was said. |

What I'm saying is that there are no legal or ethical reasons not to perform the material, given that there was no notice of any restrictions in advance of purchase. You're safe, the notice on the DVD is irrelevant. Just go ahead and perform the material, if that's what you want to do.
If, however, it personally means something to you that Mr. Guimaraes stated a preference (after the sale) that you not perform the material - that's fine, don't do it. I would argue, though, that the ethical thing for Mr. Guimaraes (and his production team) would have been to make this clear on the front end.

@Maxfieldsmagic, I don't believe that Mr. G and his production team wanted to make this clear on the front, as this would have limited sales.
