Hey everyone I am working on a routine and in the routine I need to make a basketball vanish. I have a few ideas but I'm really not for sure how to do this. Here is what I am picturing, I show the basketall then place it under a towel. Then I remove the towel and the basketball is gone, I would really like to show both sides and of the towel.
Anyone have any ideas? thanks! |

What conditions? Stage, parlour??? With a table? With an assistant? Why do you have a basketball? Does it have to be a real basketball?

There are a number of methods you could use depending on the restrictions.

Oh yeah sorry! Well it would be on stage, I have a ditch basket if I would need it because I thought of a way that would use that. Also I would like to use a real basketball because I would be dribbling it around a little bit. Hopefully that answers your guys questions!

Oksy, cover the basketball with the towel, make an motion like you are going to make a basket shot with both hands, bend at the knees, lower the covered ball. Now, drop the ball in your basket, and throw the towel as high in the air as you can. Catch the towel as it falls. It would be helpful if you had an assistant with a cute short basketball outfit walk out on stage as you drop the ball. They will all be looking at her, so it does not really matter what you are doing at this point.

There's a simple method in Tarbell vol. 1 involving a large cloth and a pin, if you're using a table.

You can get a CD version of the Tarbell Course if you wish.

I would go a different route. I would think like a Zombie gimmick and Dekolta Chair (not the actual chair, but the concept). I'll PM with more specific thoughts. The effect would be to first float the ball and then it vanishes, and I would do it to music, with a real punch at the magical moment. The concept is the same as a lady who lies on a table, covered with a cloth, she "begins to float" and then magically dissapears.

Switch the Basketball for a balloon and then slowly deflate the balloon under the towel. look somewhere online for a basketball balloon.
