Please don't post your paid for mnemonic software or book! This is intended as a free resource for members. I go through much of my time and trouble to find these items, and don't appreciate people trying to sell their wares on my back. Thank you. Here is the manual page; http://www.nongnu.org/majorteach/info/index.html and here is where you can get the free software; http://www.nongnu.org/majorteach/.

As has been discussed many times in this forum, a memory system is one of the essential tools of the mentalist.

It is chapter 3 of Corinda's 13 Steps, and well worth the time and energy it takes to learn.

I'm posting this in the hope that it helps people learn and grow.

Enjoy.

Peace.

OK. It seems the software is in the development stage. However you can still learn the system and practice using the info on their site. If I or anybody else finds some free software to use, please post it here in this thread.

Thank you.

Peace.

For memory work resources you might want to check out Grey Matters.

Your welcome my friend. If we all work together to bring these kinds of freebies to each other, maybe we can cut down on all the greed going on in the magic community?

Peace.

Thanks for the other plug! I also post it over at Scribd: http://www.scribd.com/doc/397402/Memory-Effects

Here are some more free major system resources:

YouTube Video Playlist: DerrenBridger Memory Videos
YouTube Video Playlist: Tim's Memorization Course
Mentat Wiki: Major System (Check out the rest of the Mentat Wiki)
Mnemonics: Tools section of my Memory Tools/Techniques page
Memory Basics: Major/Peg System (Links to 5 pages that teach it for free)

I can post others as I think of them, but this is a good starter list...

There's actually 2 different versions of NumberThink, both of which are free:
NumberThink for iPhone/iPod Touch (iTunes Link)
NumberThink for iPad (iTunes Link)

They're both great, but the iPad version, due to the extra room, is a little more usable.

Another goodie:
Phonetic Mnemonic Major Memory System Keyword Database

Hey Scott; Thank you for your posts! I'm sure the members here who use your information will acknowledge your contributions to the board? Till then again thank you! One question? Is there a pc based free program that teaches and tests the peg system? If so would you please be so kind as to post it here?

Again thank you for all your posts.

Peace.

Ooooh...I just found another mnemonic keyword database: http://pinfruit.com/

Don't forget that setting up the Major system facts on a flash card program can help you learn it, and there are many free flashcard programs online.

There are also many free Android flash card apps, and many free iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad flash card apps, too. (Not all of these will allow you to customize your own flashcards, so double-check that such a feature is available.)

This isn't Mnemonics but I think it deserves to be watched

on 60 minutes appeared a bunch of people with extreme autobiographical memory
I think this video will help you enhace the effects you do

Although it doesn't specifically teach the peg system, you could use The Mnemosyne Project (offline app for Windows, OS X, Linux, and Android) to quiz you regularly on the numbers and their phonetic equivalents, as well as your 100 keywords.

For learning about the system, Number Thesaurus is a good resource.

Also, check out the Memorize Now web app. You can learn about it in the Memorize Now screencast.

There's a technique known as Self-Enhancing Master Memory Matrix, or SEMMM or SEM Cubed for short. Using this approach, you add 100 more peg words, but in such a way that you now have 10,000 images to use as memory hooks!

Mnemonics is a great skill to learn, I used to be quite good at this a few years ago and used it for studying. I even used to be able to memorize a deck of cards, it took minutes not seconds, so nobviously not good enough to enter competitions but good enough to impress people.

This is actual memorization software for help with numbers. http://www.got2know.net/index.htm and it's also available in 3 languages. Oh and as always it's completely free. Beta version.

Enjoy.

Hello,

A free resource quite similar to Number Thesaurus is Rememberg, it generates major system key...... numbers.

Me too I follow Grey Matters, contains tons of very interesting lecture, nice writing style, makes it easy to understand.

Old threat - but for the new, interested visitors:
I have created a free mnemonic major system generator / database. There is no registration necessary.
Just enter a number, and it will generate matching keywords for you: http://major-system-generator.net
