The pics below are daffydoug's figure. He sent me pics and it's got me stumped. It sort of looks like a Lovik, but I'm wondering if someone, maybe named "O'Leary", made it themselves and tried to make it look like a Lovik, or maybe redid a Lovik....and the controls are not like any I've seen, but I'm a long way from having seen everything.
So hopefully, someone will have some idea, here are the pics;

All we are waiting for is for Dan Willinger to log on to this question. I have yet to find one that can stump him. . . . Maybe this can be the first.

I never dreamed ol' Daniel would get his own thread! I'm having a blast!

Here he is in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwKRn3d0Ouc

Y'know...some of the work on it seems to me like Clinton D's. That is to say, he could've done a little reworking on it at some point.

As for Lovik...The early Lovik I have has the open neck base...but not the extra bit of recessed wood cap. Is that common?
However, the stacked washers on the control stick matches the stacked washers on my Lovik (which, up until recently, was a "living mouth.")

The early Lovik I just got recently, that still has the living mouth, also has an open base neck - no recessed wood cap.
Mine also has stacked washers, but not as many as doug's. What really gets me on the controls is the wire around the headstick and going through either end the lever which I'm sure is for the eyes - could that be a way of making them self-centering?

Just by looking at that, it seems like it would make the eyes impossible to operate. Is that wire stapled in place?
The metal levers and the stacked washers say Lovik to me...but there's so much that doesn't (including the mouth which, please, please forgive me, Doug, seems kinda gappy for what it is. I'm thinkin' the mouth thing might've been added later by somebody.
NOT Clinton. His mouth slots are impeccable.
Can hardly wait till Dan shows up and straightens us all out.

I just counted my stacked washers. Four.
And that extra wrap-around wire isn't on mine, though mine doesn't have self-centering eyes.
Also--when I got this Lovik, it had latex ears stapled on. I'm guessing there was an ear-wiggle option that wasn't picked up on by the guy who first ordered it. Doug's figure seems to have ears cast of something, though it's hard to tell with the wig.

I should probably clarify my speculation about Clinton up there. The paint job reminds me of his work, as do the eyelashes (though my Lovik had the eyelashes, too, originally), but the eyebrows would be wrong for Clinton.
This is fun.

Now you know why I was stumped, it seems Lovik in many ways, but in many ways, it doesn't.
Mine only has a couple washers stacked, but the mouth lever is a bit sloppy, a couple may have been removed at some point.
That wire does apear to be stapled, but only in the middle, and being thin wire, it would be somewhat flexible, so it may have worked as a self-centering mechanism, mine doesn't have it, but mine doesn't have self-centering eyes either.

That may be, maybe it was also a living mouth figure that was converted.

Exactly. That's what I've done to mine. My slot-gaps are better...but not as good as Clinton's.

Something that would validate that would be the inner workings of the mouth. The Lovik over here had a very clever mechanism that involved two pices of wood and a hinge. No worries about the arc of a thing with a metal rod.
I kept that mechanism because it's so foolproof.
I've not seen anything quite like it before. For my money, that would prove the Lovikness of the figure originally, with a lot of changes.

The fifth picture down from the top is the eye side to side movement. Self centering.

OK Guys I just got logged on today and Daniel is a Graig Lovik figure without question. I am not sure if Clinton sold him or not but it is Lovik's work!!

I guessed mid 1980's based on the style. What say you Mr. Willinger?

So I was right in my guess that the wire was a self-centering mechanism - which is really a rather clever way to get the self centering effect without having to mount springs inside the head.
I also agree that it looks like a mid to later eighties Craig Lovik, but I'm betting that the eyes were not self-centering originally, I'm thinking that was an add-on because I've never seen a Lovik that had that mechanism.
