Thank you for accepting me into this splendid group. I have been helped so much by reading the postings of the more experienced members, and have often scurried away to do further research on a subject after spotting a hint, or a name/move that I didn't recognise. I'm very new to the magical world, and have enjoyed going to the classical texts of Robert-Houdin, Professor Hoffmann, Sachs, Vernon, Simon, Page and Bobo, and have ploughed through Tarbell, although every time I go back to it I see stuff that I missed first time around. As a learner, there is a bewildering amount to learn, and a temptation to keep buying more gizmos with whistles and bells, as a defence against the spectators, so learning to get up and entertain with simple equipment has been a challenge for me.
A Happy New Year to everyone Tim |

Welcome to the Café Tim; don't be afraid to jump in on any forum you wish. Folks in here are here to help and they're a wonderful bunch. Best, Bob
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Welcome Tim Hughes,
You mention a really great aspect of the Café and an important one for readers. Passive reading is generally not as helpful as the involved reading you describe. Reading is a pleasant pastime but when we follow up on what we read it really does improve our Magic. I really enjoyed Robert Houdin's Memoir "King of the Conjurers, a fun, no-trick book about Magic. -Mary Mowder |
