Explosions Reported At 2 State Buildings, Hanover MD
HANOVER, Md. -- Officials are investigating explosions at the Maryland Department of Transportation's headquarters in Hanover and a state government building in Annapolis that have injured a few people. Firefighters and hazmat crews were sent to the MDOT building in the 7200 block of Corporate Center in Hanover shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday. A source has told 11 News that two packages exploded, one at the MDOT building and another at about the same time at the Jeffrey Building on Francis Street in Annapolis. The source said when the packages were opened in the mail rooms of the buildings, a small explosion happened. Sky Team 11 Capt. Roy Taylor reported that at the MDOT building, most workers were allowed to leave except for those on the fourth floor, which is where the package was opened. Taylor said eight people were injured, four of whom were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The other four refused treatment. He said the explosion wasn't considered serious enough to cause bodily injury and that hazmat crews were trying to figure out what the substance in the package was.
