The video promo is fantastic...one of the best magic advertisements I've seen.

The trick itself looks fantastic to my eyes. Very different, and obviously, a magician with an imagination and some creativety could utilize this in many different ways. I could see some sort of Dr. Frankenstein on a small scale, with electric arcs and stuff...could be hilarious, or, I could see this played out super serious, and be one of the creepiest effects ever.

I would dress the thing up super ugly and creepy, and after it's walk, have it vanish to turn up in a ladies purse or somewhere. That would freak people out in ways they wouldn't forget! Great potential here for a reputation maker.

I really have no clue how anyone could look at this and think the trick is hokey, or too easy ro figure out. If your audience can take things out of that bag, and help with the building- it's very weird!

This seems like a first rate effect. I expect it's the cost that is causing the negativity, which is a shame. If a person doesn't want to, or can't afford to shell out that much money, that's perfectly understandable, but it's no reason to tear down what appears to be a quite wonderful new effect that from reports, is well thought out, well crafted, and clearly is beautifully presented in the ad.

And no, I don't know Paul Harris, and I currently own no tricks by him. This just looks like a great effect!

I still see the little man ice-skating rather than walking: but to each his own

Just use Sankey's giant Ear Plugs instead.

I want to want one, but just have not been sold on it yet. Looks like a nice toy, perhaps a more serious PK video. May be just me.

Hi,

Not sure if this LM thread is still alive but here goes anyway.

I have looked at the LM from a distance for quite a while now and didn't quite commit myself as it is , well....expensive. About two weeks ago I came across some comments on this effect and looked into it again, and took the plunge to order it.

The first thing to say is that the service I received from Paul and Janet was second to none. I was immediately acknowledged for placing my order, and informed fully what would happen next and roughly when. Janet was always very quick and polite in handling any questions or comments I had. Sure enough a week or two later I got another email to let me know that my LM way flying his way across the Atlantic to me in France, and one week later he is mine.

I don't know if all orders are filled this way but my LM came in a wonderful monographed wooden box. Not something to take to performances but some where to keep the little chap when he is home with me. The other thing to say is that I truly thought that I had been sent a miss made unit as I was expecting to find something in the bag, but couldn't until I watched the DVD. If I couldn't find anything (and I was expecting to) I am certain audiences won't be able to. This thing is really well made.

I've read and re read the posts on LM at the Café and really don't understand the large amount of anti LM noise that has been generated. Maybe I wasn't reading the hype at the time, but what I do know is that now I have my LM I can see the workmanship and creative thought that has gone into building him for me, which is far outside my own imagination, and I know that my audiences and I will have great fun building him and watching him walk.

How is it to set as you work between tables, how do your audiences respond when they see the props in place and when the figure moves? What many here were annoyed about is all the writing as regards a thing which has not had so much flight-time in real world performance. So please do let folks here know what you find when using the item in performance.

thanks,

Jonathan

For me the reset for Little Man precludes me from using it a lot in walk-around work. Even if it only takes a minute, it must be done in private. So I usually ony use it once during the event. I will perform it for the couple getting married, the head table, the anniversary couple, the person hiring me or whomever is the star of the event.

It goes over really BIG and is something that gets talked about a lot! It's also great when meeting event planners for the first time!

I find it amusing that many folks think they can de-construct "Little Man". I can honestly say that I can work out how almost any trick is done, but with LM, the method is truly well-disguised. Even though some folks may have an inkling of what's going on, there is simply no way they could understand the actual modus operandi, as there are a myriad of clever touches which make it "impossible". I feel the most serious drawback is that this is a "one-off" presentation - no working magician would have the time, or inclination, to re-set it for a repeat performance, unless they actually have a break between shows - even then, it would be much more likely that such a performer would buy extra sets, and have them all ready to go at the start of the day.
It plays quite brilliantly, and for kids, it's a most engaging piece. They help to build the figure, and he "walks". OK, if you prefer, he "shuffles". The figure is very reminiscent of "Morph", the clay cartoon character. What I really like about LM is that in performance, it's almost self-working. Yes, it takes some time to understand the set-up, and to get it right, but once that's done, you can relax and enjoy the presentation, as there is nothing more to do than some very basic "moves".
This will likely make it into my kidshows before long, of course, if I'm performing in front of a group of kids, I need to find plenty of comedy during the "moulding" stage. Currently, I use it at hospitals at the bedside, and it's been a joy to see the faces of kids who are very ill light up when they see the clay figure they just created start to walk.
Little Man is exceptional - very unusual, and very magical. I would say that it's definitely not for everyone, but then again, I wonder if everyone has really considered the possibilities?
I regard it as one of the most carefully considered effects I own. This for sure took a great deal of thought and planning, every little problematic detail has been observed, and overcome.
