I'm needing a little help.
I remember this effect on Magicsmith a little while ago, (I think it came out when From Hell movie with Johnny Depp came out not too long ago). It was an effect with the so called authentic letter from Jack the Ripper. Where you read the letter to your audience, then when you are done reading a bloody hand appears on the back of the letter. Can anyone help me in locating it? I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance, |

There are two versions out at present. "In Lizzie's Hand" by Larry White and "The Dear Boss Letter" by Arlen Studios.

I do not suggest using the patter that comes with the Jack the Ripper effect. Research Jack, AKA James Maybrick, and created your own patter.

James,
Air56 is right. The effect you are looking for is the Arlen Studios effect "The Dear Boss Letter". Doug

As with any effect you should adapt the presentaion to fit yourself. Reading the instructions, throwing them out and writing your own script is the way to go. I presented this effect at an I.C.B.M. "Gathering of the Magi" with my own script and a different method for making the hand print appear.

Veri-tone ink. It's a colorless liquid. If you apply it to paper, and heat it, it will create writing that appears burnt in the paper.
BUT, it can also be purchased with "Blood Evidence" stationary. Put a little on your hand, set it on the paper, and a bloody hand print appears. There is a thread on this a few pages back. Rest |

I didn't use my hand as it is much larger than you might expect from a young woman.
That was my problem with the effect initially, but, I worked around it.

Quote: Ahem. That would be James Maybrick--one of many suspects. The point is good though: anyone basing a routine on a historical case such as this would do well to do a little background research. Historical inaccuracies can take those with real knowledge of the events out of the moments you are trying to create. For other effects having bloody Jack as the main theme, check out Docc Hilford's Band of the Hand

I have invented something involving Jack. I describe how I have unearthed a sketch of Jack the Ripper. The how is pointless for this post. I take a spectator who earlier I hypnotized (pseudo-hypno babble) and tell her now that she's in a mild trance her mind is open to the spirit realm.
I have her breathe, stare at a board which I have erected that houses various hair types and facial features. She then is instructed to imagine she is the Ripper's last victim in England (Insert patter) and then describe what he looks like using the previously mentioned items. When I have finished assembling the features, the sketch and the new montage are the same person! It's a really bizarre effect. |

For a variety of Ripper effects, you may want to check out my Jack the Ripper on the e-zine Visions (www.online-visions.com) or The Ripper Strikes, also one of mine, at Dragonskull (www.dragonskull.co.uk) or another take on the Dear Boss letter that I did for Doug Byrd's site Bizarre Magick.com (it has shut down but I understand it is re-opening soon).
