I'm using bee cards to practice maniplulations but I bought some "delux nielsen cards" with some powder..do you think these are better to practice or sould I save them for performance , or I do need to practice with the nielsen's because they are easier ...
thanks .. |

I think you should have gotten the deck without the pre-treatment. Then purchase separate fanning powder. You will have to powder your cards anyway after use for several hours.
I think this matter of which to practice with, and which to use is a personal choice. You will get more productions with a Nielsen deck and you have to learn to split only 3 cards from the full deck. What do you think your abilities are? |

I have bought the powder seperately , are the delux cards come per-treated ?? anyways , I can't fan a whole deck with one hand yet? I probably can fan 1/3 of a deck , and my abilities are I can single produce cards (the cardini single production) , I can do fans , back balm more than 6 cards and reproduce .. I just started on split fans its kinda complicated as when I split the fan this one card always stuck between the fan and the rest of (back balmed cards) .. I started 2 months a go but with constant practicing ..

Yes, you are having the same problems that many do when beginning, try to get a "feel" for the cards. Sometime you are holding the cards to tight and something to loose. It is a technique that has to be developed throught practice.
It will take you several months of regular practice to begin to see results. Keep at it! |

Yes, use them, but if you don't have them yet, how are you having problems with the card flipping up?
The card is flipping up because you are not controling the cards with the little finger properly. You should have bought 2 of the $5.00 decks, I like these over the $7.50 decks. http://www.nnmagic.com/magicitems/manipulationpage.htm I believe Lance Burton Manipulation Cards are superior to Nielsens. http://www.seomagic-usa.com/catalog/prod......s_id/611 If you want poker size manipulation cards then try these: http://www.seomagic-usa.com/catalog/prod......s_id/146 |

That's probably what it is the little finger, and you know what , I will get some of lance Burton , like a deck or 2 and see which one feels to work better .. I have seen that you recommended these before to other people ..

Practice using regular decks. Thinner, Manipulation-specific decks will spoil you.

That surprising, as when I learned with poker cards, I found it much easier to use the manipulation decks.
You tried them (?) gave them a whole few minutes did you! They are only to assits you in creating more fans, they cannot make you a better manipulator. |

I will try to use them some more , and wmhegbli is right , I thought they will make my fans looks better !! they don't .. but I think they are easier to back palm more cards because they are thinner , .. they look like the ENO card-board game cards , that you can buy for $1 from walmart thou

By the way I'm getting better with split fans, but still when I fan the cards from back palm they wont fan in the right position to be splitted with my finger , I always had to adjust the fan with my other hand to split it right .. any tips?

Sounds like you are not executing the moves properly. What is your reference material? The cards are not the problem, it is your movements.
I suggest you purchase a little booklet 'Card Fan Productions' by Ed Marlo $9.95 http://www.magicinc.net/cardfanproductionsbyedmarlo.aspx |

I would not have recommended it if I did not think it would help you.
Sorry, but I cannot give detailed fan creation on an open forum, plus it would be way beyond the room provided and I do not fill like writing a booklet on the Internet. Again if you cannot move your index finger, then you are makeing the fan incorrectly. Go back and study the Jeff McBride section and close up parts of the moves. |

I cant add anything new to what has been said already....all I can add is simply my own experiences:
for me, to be able to split fan cards to such a degree that gets applause from my audiences (street/stage and private shows), on a constant basis. meaning the quality of the card act is consistant. has taken me 4 years. I still have much to learn, I know. but to get to where I'm at now with cards is the absolute most difficult thing ive ever done in magic. the reason why I have decided to devote my blood sweat and tears to card manipulation is because so few people do! its a difficult ride but its well worth it! one more thing I wanted to mention is that its all about finding the feeling of the cards. different kinds of cards give a different feeling. I use red backed bee cards. PRACTICE WITH WHAT YOU PERFORM WITH...as was said already. stick to one type of card. although its OK to exparament. it will take time... |
