Kerry Kisler in his "Magic Beans" column in the January/February 2007 issue of The Christian Conjurer had a neato "Vanishing Area Paradox" puzzle and supporting Gospel illustration. This puzzle originally appeared in print over 45 years ago by mathematician and magician Martin Gardner. MagicBob suggested that we get this made up in large handheld wood pieces for our March 16 video taping- and my carpenter friend "Uncle Jake" did exactly that for us. So can't wait to show it to you all, similar to Laflin's "Through the Wall." This puzzle also is part of "The Worlds Best Optical Illusions" tract available at http://www.livingwaters.com so it can act as a springboard for handing out this Gospel tract after showing the puzzle. You could easily as well make up this effect up for stage size using thick cardboard or poster board. Our version has a little wood lip at the bottom so the puzzle pieces can rest on it to be displayed upright. Check Kerry's column out in the archives library at http://www.fcm.org in the "Members Only" area.

Whoops, there I go again, not proofreading. Kerry's last name is spelled Kistler and he is a frequent contributor to The Magic Café'. Thanks Kerry for the above idea!- I just have not figured out yet what colors to stain or paint the wood pieces yet! MagicBob wanted me to stain the pieces so it looks more like a classy puzzle- I am more inclined to use bright paint colors so it shows up better on stage. I may also tie in a message about tithing- that you can give God a segment (remove wood piece) of your income yet as he says in Micah that you can "test Him" in that regard- He will wholly provide (puzzle is restored to full size after the "tithe" segment removed, see the verse in Luke as to that). I can look up the exact verses if interested. Kerry's routine idea is terrific as published- probably will go with that first.
