Are there any tricks for ghosts or spirits being trapped in bottles (not the old imp one) if so--what are the names and routines that go with it?

Sure. All you need do is suspend a pendulum inside a sealed bottle and, with your finger tips touching the table top, concentrate of on getting it to swing in answer to questions.
That's it. No tricks and it does work. How you present it is up to you. How does it work? Well, it's probably either involuntary neuro-muscular movements or a spirit trapped in the bottle. Sid

You only have to touch the table top? I have heard of the pendulum on a string but this is a new one...I may have to try this for my Halloween show.

Hello Ellen:
In Ulf Bolling-Borodin´s book "SHEHERAZADE" you´ll find on pages 43 to 47 a trick with the title:"Tahor`s Silver Flute". This is a very spooky routine. The book hit the market only a few weeks ago. The book the Ted refers to is an excellent book! i highly recoment it! It is full of wonderful bizarre routines. The stories are captivating and the effects are equally so.

Also, Eugene Burger's Candle in Bottle, or the old pencil/wand in bottle.

Empty the ghost from a bottle into a handkerchief and you've got Glorpy.
Ghost Glass can be done as a spirit-in-a-bottle effect. Swamp Water (from Hilford's Band of the Hand) is a spirit-in-a-jar-of-water effect. (P)ocean (from Waters' Mind, Myth & Magick) can be played as a ghost in a bottle of water (or spirits) as well. Balance a pen on a spirit's bottle, and the spirit will knock it off (PK Pen). Ditto for a block of wood leaned against it (Telekinetic Timber). The spirit may even compel the bottle to roll across the table on its own (IT or palpitator). It's a start.

The is a German fruit brandy called Himbeergeist which, roughly translated, means ghost or spirit of raspberry. An empty bottle of this stuff, with its label intact, might provide a presentational framework for one or more of the effects already mentioned. Not only that. The preparation of the prop (by emptying the bottle) is an effect all by itself.
Prosit, Sid
