Hello everyone my name is Robert Ashkenes I have been practicing for the past six months. I am currently a marine but am planning on using my time in Afghanistan to learn more then I have already and hopefully become a professional magician when I get out of the corps. This seemed like a good place to talk with other magicians so I decided to register. Well have a great day!

Welcome Robert! We DO appreciate your service! Any idea what kind of venue you want to perform in? That will go a long ways toward pointing you in the right direction, as far as props, scripts, music, costume, movement, etc. Meanwhile, if you just want to "soak-up" some really good information about magic being entertaining, instead of just tricks, read "Maximum Entertainment" by Weber. He pulls no punches and says it straight. If you come to understand what entertains an audience, you'll be way ahead of a great many other wannabes who try and look cool while they fumble and stumble. I have fond memories of Quantico, VA, circa '64-'67.
Best Regards wk

Welcome Rashkenes,
I'll bet a lot of people over there could use some Magic in their lives. You're in a position to do double duty. Thank you! -Mary Mowder |

Hello all,
To wkitwizard: thank you for your tips, right now I'm sticking mainly to card and close up magic, stuff I can carry on me. I'm reading through tar bell and mark Wilson. And though I am practicing standard card magic, I have taken a large interest in mechanical decks and have begun to develop my own. I'm working on a two way Svengali as well as a reverse invisible. I'm learning about all sorts of different techniques for mechanics. My goal is to leave my mark on magic with a gaff deck no ones seen before. Other then that I want to be a stage magician and perform shows. Mary mowder: I plan on doing double duty. I'll make you all proud! |

Greetings and Semper Fi Marine. I'm just coming to the end of my tour and am greatly looking forward to hitting the magic scene head-on once I'm 'civilianized' again. Good luck with your magic and enjoy the road it takes you on. I've been into magic for about 15 years and have performing professionally for about 6. It's a wonderful gift to have at your disposal. So, if you ever have any questions, I'll offer my best advice. Till then, good luck, stay safe, and SEMPER FI!

Welcome, Rob: By reading Tarbell you're getting like a graduate degree in magic. Looks like you're off to a good start. Would love to hear about the reaction to your magic in the field.
