Some great points Brad.
I have very little performance background, but what you say rings true. I think many magicians get so caught up in performing a "trick" or "routine" that they forget the "magic". Magic doesn't start and end with the performer... I think it is sparked in the audience and somehow must find its fulfillment there as well. This can't happen if the audience is ignored. Maybe I'm only one type of audience member, but I don't want to just be baffled and confounded... I want be amazed. I want to hope that magic isn't just an act of human skill... but inside me and all around me... not performed by trained professionals, but lived out by free spirits. But to be free, performers have to step outside of themselves long enough to make that connection. I don't have a clue what I'm talking about, but I'm probably right. Regards, Mike Mitrovich |
