Hi all,
I will be moving in a few months and will have a room for myself that will be half office / half magic room. I am looking for ideas of things to have in the room, illusions, etc. For example I have ordered a set of three remote activated candles. I have also seen animated books on a bookshelf (though they didn't look great, too fast!) Basically anything that a magician would love in a magic room. All ideas appreciated! Many Thanks Gary |

Assuming that by "illusions" you mean optical illusions, I would try ordering something from grand-illusions.com. Wonderful selection of illusion related products.
This would be an ideal attention grabber piece: http://www.grand-illusions.com/acatalog/......ion.html |

How about a Dr. Jaks type book (or books) with "special" magic apparatus inside?
You can find such books at Hobby Lobby and other shops that sell imported goodies. Julie |

Not an illusion, but I think it does border on being "magical." And very classy.

They don't give a price but hint that it's in the "tens of thousands of pounds"! I love the fact they send a technician to anywhere in the world to install it! I think you have to be seriously rich to buy one of these!

I have a Giant Mirage. I can place an object as big as a lemon inside and it creates a solid looking image that people can put their hand through.
You can get it's little brother at museum gift shops but it will only handle items the size of a 50 cent piece or so. It does come with a cute little pig that works perfectly. http://www.optigone.com/m22.htm |

I too am decorating a magic office so if anyone else has any particular favorites, I'd love to hear about them.

I'll give this explaination a try.
If you do Halloween I may know an effect you could use in some way. You need a cheap styrofoam mask that allows some light to pass through it when you hold it up to a light. You take a cardboard box and cut an oval in one side and put the mask in the oval- backward (the mask is in the direction that a person would be if he was looking into the box). You put a low wattage bulb ( 25 watt is good) in the center-back of the box so the only light that gets out is through the mask. You set it up so that kids will walk by with the mask at roughly the same height as the average child's head.Ideally the kids are 15 or 20 feet away from the mask) The result is that every kid sees the ENTIRE HEAD (of the mask) follow the kid no matter where the kid walks. It is very nice and we set it up in a window of our house during Halloweenn season. Kids go by the house and walk back and forth and watch the head follow them. It would work in a room also. If you have ever been to the haunted house at Disney World they have something similar as you enter the haunted house. I'm not sure if my explaination is good enough. |

My apologies to Rex (an earlier post). Rex's reference to the Einstein face is exactly what I was trying to explain. I didn't read the posts carefully enough.

I know this is an old thread but I love the concept and plan on incorporating some of these things in my own magic office (if I ever get one) so I figure at least its interesting
I found this man's amazing website and he had these 2: http://georgehart.com/g4g10/index.html and http://georgehart.com/g4g11/index.html . You can also just google "playing card geometry shapes" for other similar ideas. |
