The citation about the number of shareholders or directors doesn't contradict the notion that the business must be majority Egyptian owned. You can have one Egyptian shareholder with 60% of the company, and three foreign shareholders who are the only directors divvying up the other 40% between them.

No, it did not. However, it seems 100% foreign investment is permitted in at least some sectors. See the article below. Now, it does also mention a limit of 49% in some sectors but the article IS 4 years old and I think other reforms might have occurred since it was written:
http://www.oecd.org/document/6/0,3746,en......,00.html "Foreign investment in manufacturing has been fully liberalised, with the exception of defence-related industries. Foreign equity participation in financial services and privately-owned telecommunications services is permitted up to 100%."

"Egypt's new military rulers told the nation on Saturday they were committed to civilian rule and democracy after Hosni Mubarak's overthrow and said they would respect all treaties, a move to reassure Israel and Washington."
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/02/egypt......an-rule/ And as for Mubarak being Mr. 51%--I think you'll agree that that didn't come as a shock to the writers of the law, or to the affected investors. There was never any intention for the Egyptian people, other than the elite, to share in that investment.

Out of curiosity, does anyone here have any ties, past or present, to Egypt?

I went to Cairo, horrible place, one of the worse I've ever been to. I, of course, know Egyptians through my inlaws who are Arabic.

The military has evidently called for a ban on strikes by unions. This is very bad news, as the strikes were a major, perhaps the major weapon of the protesters to achieve their goals. With the more left elements suppressed, the right wing fundamentalist Islamist faction opposed to Mubarak gets more space. Also, it appears that the cabinet will remain the same, continuing Mubarkism without Mubarak.

From the BBC today, it appears that the protesters are not going to stand for business as usual. Lots of anger towards the upper class elite:
"Fresh protests and strikes have flared in Egypt as demonstrators demand better pay and conditions from the country's new military rulers. Bank, transport and tourism workers all demonstrated in Cairo after 18 days of protests succeeded in removing President Hosni Mubarak. Police also protested in Cairo's Tahrir Square - to show solidarity with the anti-government movement . . . The BBC's Jon Leyne in Cairo says there appears to be a whole series of mini-revolutions going on in the wake of the removal of Mr Mubarak, a chaotic situation that could go on for months. He says the big challenge now facing the military rulers may be staving off a wave of strikes. The ruling military council has urged people to return to work to try to get the country back to normal. Police also protested in Cairo's Tahrir Square - to show solidarity with the anti-government movement. The military had earlier finally cleared the square of protesters . . . However, it had to instruct banks to remain closed on Monday following the strike threats. The Egyptian stock exchange has also postponed its reopening until Sunday 20 February at the earliest. Hundreds of bank employees protested outside a branch of the Bank of Alexandria in central Cairo, calling for their managers to resign. Outside the state TV and radio building, hundreds of public transport workers took part in a demonstration, calling for better pay. One protester, Ahmed Ali, told Reuters news agency: "The big people steal and the little people get nothing."

If someone has mentioned this already, sorry for repeating. It's unclear how accurate the first story really is.
"Mubarak falls into coma after final speech: report" "Egypt's deposed president, Hosni Mubarak, went into a full coma on Saturday night at his residence in the Red Sea resort of Sharm al-Sheikh, an Egyptian newspaper reported on Monday, quoting well-informed sources." http://www.alarabiya.net/articles/2011/02/14/137565.html "Egypt's ambassador to the US, Sameh Shoukry, told The Today Show on Tuesday morning that Mubarak "is possibly in somewhat of bad health". But a pro-government newspaper denied the report but said the leader was suffering psychologically and was declining treatment." http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=8211746

Reports of fighter pilots sent by Qaddafi to bomb protesters, refusing to fire, and heading to Italy for asylum. Qaddafi may have fled leaving his sons to fight it out. Another great day.

That is correct, and when the Syrians start up same thing, and Iranians, actually in Iran I hope the more rational people kill off the fundimentalist. I thought that was the peaceful anti US way of thinking? Let the people slaughter each other w/out interference, the left loved it when Saddam did it. F'em but keep the oil fields in tact so that Europe can get their supply.

So you believe that they should use the oil themselves and not export it? Are you of the opinion that countries that export oil do not benefit from the selling of oil?
