Hello,
I've never been in the competition but I'm trying to compete in one of the biggest conference in my area. I'm now routining my routine and I'm considering to do a rope routine in my act, is it a good idea? I'll do "at a loose end by Steve Bedwell" and do some variation. Whether is a rope routine too common or not to be added to a routine for a competition? Is it too easy and lack of skill? How's your opinion? Thank you very much. YuYen

Hello,
I'm a french magician, so sorry for my bad english... I think there is 3 ways for the competition in magic. Competition is very special because ther is many magicians in the public. 1) Using original objects in a classic act (Many acts of manipulation are very classic, the originality is only in the object) 2) Using classic objects with an original act. It may be the character, the situation, the music, the construction of the act,... 3) Original act with original objects... Personnally I take the 2nd way. I have a rope act for competition, with a classic gimmick. Any Magician know the gimmick. But I hope that the character, the atmosphere make the magicians forgot the "trick" to fall in the "magic"... Good magic, and good luck for your competition ! |

Like you, I'll take the 2nd way to present my magic. Hope I can do it well in the competition. Best, YuYen

I agree rope routines are a death march. I know many routines are very hard and take a lot of practice but no one cares all they see is a rope routine . to make my point , I saw a friend of mine win a major competition at one convention and 2 months later enter another competition with a very cool rope routine to music that was timed perfectly and get destroyed

If you do go with the rope routine and it is a complete disaster at least you'll have something to hang yourself with
