The BEST BOOK AWARD has been running for five years now, and I thought it would be interesting to to see which of the number ones is the most popular of the five’s.
Cast the YOUR vote for the book you think is the best. The nominees are: 2005: Dear Mr Fantasy, John Bannon 2006: Power Plays, Mike Power 2007: Session/547, Joshua Jay 2008: Approaching Magic, David Regal 2009: Magic: 1400s to 1950s, Mike Cavenry 2010: One Degree, John Guastaferro Although no voting was held for 2010 best book award, we all agreed upon that ”One Degree” was the winner.

All truly terrific books, but if I have to pick one I'll go with Approaching Magic.

So hard since all the books are so different. I agree though, the essays and sheer size of Approaching Magic give it my vote (not to mention the killer effects).

I find myself using more stuff from Dear Mr. Fantasy than from Approach Magic, so I'll vote for Bannon's work.

I have been consistently performing many of the effects from DMF ever since I bought the book back in 2005 or 2006, more than any other books. I had also learned my favourite multiple shift and glimpse from the same book. DMF for me.

I'm a big John Bannon fan, and I'm eagerly waiting for the release of his "Bullet Party" DVD which is going to be released in Blackpool next week.
In the meantime I vote for "Dear Mr Fantasy" (which btw is a great song by Stevie Windwood)

'One Degree' was probably the closest book I've read to 'Dear Mr Fantasy' in terms of overall content and tone, which is intended as a massive compliment. But 'DMF' is a particular favourite of mine. I bought it not long after I became interested in card magic, it let me take a big jump forward in my thinking, and I still get great enjoyment from going back to it, so 'DMF' would get my vote.

My favorite out of that bunch is definitely Approaching Magic. Great magic, great essays, great scripts. But Power Plays has some STRONG magic in it. The effect called Invisible Triumph is one of my all-time favorites. It has made people literally jump out of their seats.

Tough decision, but 1 vote for "Approaching Magic"--if for nothing more than sheer volume and variety of material. If there's a "best substitute for a card press" category then "Magic 1400's to 1950's" is a shoe-in.
