Posted: Feb 8, 2011 7:22pm I believe my first trick was finding a spectator's cards using a key card. I believe my second was called "dead mans hand" or some other reference to Wild Bill Hickok (found in Scarne On Cards, my first magic book). Of course this could have been my first and that would make the other my second.

This n' That. Rather complicated, so maybe not the best place to start. The Grid Trick (close up cards) is fantastic, but I'm fairly sure that it's original. Also, "Feeling A Card" is also fantastic and was taught to me by my Uncle, who teaches a magic/misdirection course in high school. Neither of these require much sleight of hand. PM me if you want instructions for the effects.

The first trick that I purchased was the Cups & Balls. I threw the instructions away because It took a good two weeks to get the $1.00 the trick sold for. I had watched so many demonstrations that I knew the routine forward and backward, so I naturaly threw the instructions in the trash. When it did not work, I pull out the instructions and found out that the extra ball they gave me was part of the deal, not an error. I placed in on the shelf and went back and purchased a Paddle ($.50) which I mastered very quickly and the Magic bug bit me very hard. Within a years time my bedroom looked like a well stocked Magic Shop.
I still Love the Paddles but wish I could find the same type of Paddle I had back then. Iven Posted: Feb 16, 2011 10:19am Mr. Lorayne: I was wondering if you have available the instructions for your Rising Card effect using the Svengali? I would purchase the instructions, even though I do the effect. I think other's might want to use this method (I never show anyone how to do this effect). Iven

The first trick was the Invisible Deck.
I saw a street performer doing it and got totally fried by it. Went back the next day: different spectator...different card. Three days in a ROW I watched him. No internet back then (early 80s) and I went to a magic shop...the only one in town...and described the effect. The magician nodded and silently placed a deck of cards on the counter. He didn't say a word. He didn't have to. I opened the package in the CAR and started reading. My reaction went from: What Are They Talking About to...Holy CRAP! This is AMAZING! I still do the ID...and it is STILL my favorite effect to this day. David

First trick I learned was where you jam a fork and spoon together and balance them on a toothpick on the edge of a glass... then you light the other end of the toothpick on fire and it burns down to the edge of the glass.
For a trick that requires no setup or skill, other than getting the setup to balance, it gets great reactions with friends/family. -Mike |

I bought a Svengali pack with a dvd of Dave Hudspath showing ''25 tricks with a Svengali deck'' I learned how to switch it for a regular deck pretty quickly so I had quite a big success at school doing this. Then I learned crushed and restored soda can...

Turning over bottle and water staying in it . Gimmick came in box of cereal . Had to use large bottles back then...before 16.9 oz. and 20.oz.
Trick the same as gimmick you use now. Also stated about using toothpick or match in bottle, when upside down in the instructions. Telling kids to use matches? That trick is really old! lol

There were a few and they probably represent the three most popular already been said.
They were 21 card trick The four jacks burglers thingy (does it have a proper name?) card reversed I never use these but I use the last two with better ways of accomplishing the same effect. By better, I mean ones that people don't know because these are quite popular with laymen. |

My first trick was Jumping Gemini. I actually also teach some 12ish kids, but I always start with them with something simple like key card.
