...or maybe not.
At the food court today there was a woman with a little girl, maybe 5 or 6 years old, sitting at the next table. The kid seemed anxious and after some twirling on the seat they left for the restroom. After I had finished eating I went to the restrooms to wash my hands. The mom and kid had gone to the handicapped restroom and had left the door ajar. And she was breast-feeding the kid! Geesh!

Nope...it really shocked me so much that I didn't even wash my hands. Of course I have nothing against breast-feeding babies in public places. But a 5/6 year old?

It happens, it's really not a big deal.
There has been some correlations shown between longer breast-feeding (ie. until they are older) and less of a tendency towards violence,

Sorry, I assumed it was obvious that this was a reference to violent tendencies later in life.
We don't need to worry about those who are LITERALLY latched on

I don't know, I have a nephew so devoted to his mother that at 23 I'm not real sure he's moved on to sippy cups yet.

In other words, it's not likely a direct result of any benefit of breast feeding, so much as it a result of not being allowed to be independent.

As for your claims, do you have any reason for making them, or just guessing? Do you have a lot of experience with people who breast feed until a late age and there levels of independence compared to others? Is there a correlation between independence and violence? (there might be, I wouldn't be to surprised either way). "Body pleasure and the origin of violence" (if I remember the title correctly) did have some cause and effect claims for breast feeding in general, although I don't think there was any talk about ages.

I don't think it is healthy, as far as net benefit, but largely this is, as said, my opinion. There seems to be, no doubt, benefits, nutritionally, for breast feeding for several years, even up to 5-6 as some do, I don't dispute that myself, but I am not qualified to if I wanted to. I do, however, think that said benefits are outweighed by the hindrance it would seem to have for development in other areas. But like I said, opinion.

There has been some correlations shown between longer breast-feeding (ie. until they are older) and less of a tendency towards violence, I am not sure whether there is a study, but I am sure there is also correlation between that and some emotional and social issues as well-depending on how long it has continued of course.
