Song lyrics can be bad in all sorts of ways.
Buddy Holly's Peggy Sue, for example, contains the insipid: Quote:
Peggy Sue, Peggy Sue Toto's Africa includes the nearly meaningless Quote:
Got any great examples of bad lyrics? Anything so bad, it's good? John
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats |

I may have misunderstood the brief, is it GOOD songs with bad lyrics?
This one is the pits, it must certainly scoop the prize for worst opening line: Vikki Watson's "Love is..." representing the UK in 1985's Eurovision Song Contest "It's been a pleasant evening Now she says she's leaving And he's too proud to say out loud Oh baby, won't you stay? Now she says she'll call him She finds herself fallin' When he reaches out and touches her hand She turns to walk away 'Cause there's always a weak one Always a strong one, who'll be the first to fall? Love is the danger of meeting a stranger And takin' a chance on two hearts makin' it Love is the fire, the burnin' desire That makes the world go round Love is the feelin' that makes you believe in Takin' a chance on two hearts beatin' as one That's what love is" Sorry, that's so bad it's still bad. |

How about McCartney's "Magneto and Titanium Man"? It's so bad that I don't dare post any lyrics.

OK I think I got "so bad it's good" or at least "so mundane it's good"
Busy Doin' Nothin' - Brian Wilson The CD sleeve notes say if you knew the start point these were accurate directions to Brian's house: "Drive for a couple miles You'll see a sign and turn left For a couple blocks Next is mine, you'll turn left on a little road It's a bumpy one You'll see a white fence Move the gate and drive through on the left side Come right in And you'll find me in my house somewhere Keeping busy while I wait" AND (yes, he hadn't been out of his bathrobe for 3 years): "I get a lot of thoughts in the morning I write 'em all down If it wasn't for that I'd forget 'em in a while" AND the pure genius of: "I wrote a number down But I lost it So I searched through my pocket book I couldn't find it So I sat and concentrated on the number And slowly it came to me So I dialed it And I let it ring a few times There was no answer So I let it ring a little more Still no answer So I hung up the telephone Got some paper and sharpened up a pencil And wrote a letter to my friend" I should add this is one of my all time favourite songs |

"Heroes" by David Bowie. Such a great and awful song.

The bridge of Dylan's I'll Be Your Baby Tonight:
Well that mockingbird's gonna sail away, we're gonna forget it; That big fat moon's Gonna shine like a spoon, We're gonna let it, You won't regret it. (I suppose you could argue it was meant to be a parody of insipid domesticity, if so, it succeeds.)

As Marilyn Monroe proved, it's not what you sing, but how you sing it.

And, if anyone was wondering, yes, that drove me nuts long before I heard Penn !@#$% about it.

Everything I've ever heard by Katy Perry makes me gag. Her lyrics are just awful.
Here's the worst: "I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock Your peacock, cock Your peacock, cock, cock Your peacock I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock Your peacock, cock Your peacock, cock, cock Your peacock" Also bad: "I'ma get your heart racing In my skin-tight jeans Be your teenage dream tonight Let you put your hands on me In my skin-tight jeans Be your teenage dream tonight" And then there's always: "Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!" As you shoot across the sky-y-y" Man, she is so awful. So awful.

Every song by a-ha makes little sense, here is an example, Touchy!:
Donna found us in her slow and dreamy way I can't hear a word the waiter says She's looking older now, the color of her hair She walks into the room too pleased to find me there Me, I'm touchy, touchy you Me, I'm touchy and you know what to do Me, I'm touchy, touchy, touchy you Me, I'm touchy and you know what to do There's both of us together in a room by ourselves I sneeze to look around but there's no escape What can I do? What can I say? She's waiting for this moment to explain itself Me, I'm touchy, touchy you Me, I'm touchy and you know what to do Me, I'm touchy, touchy, touchy you Touching love is the best I do Hey, this time you've gone too far You know how touchy we are Hey, this time you've gone too far You know how touchy we are Donna found me in her slow and dreamy way Now she reads me what the papers say The way she laughs at what I do I'm waiting for this moment to explain itself though Me, I'm touchy, touchy you Me, I'm touchy and you know what to do Me, I'm touchy, touchy, touchy you Touching love is the best I do Hey, this time you've gone too far You know how touchy we are Hey, this time you've gone too far You know how touchy we are Hey, this time you've gone too far You know how touchy we are Hey, this time you've gone too far You know how touchy we are Me, I'm touchy, touchy you Me, I'm touchy and you know what to do Me, I'm touchy, touchy, touchy you Me, I'm touchy, best I do Touchy you Touchy, best I can do

2 things to check out is a-ha's music video for I Wish I Cared, it was the first music video done completely in Flash.
Also the literal video for Take On Me.

I take that back Duran Duran had a Flash video before a-ha. It is hard to feel manly after watching I Wish I Cared.
A-ha has had many strange videos over the years including two that were controversial, Velvet for portraying necro and Celice for infrared coitis.
