Thanks Blueshawk,
The only problem we have is that Rusty Bob, like all of JET's creations is a one-of-a-kind puppet. She decided way back when that mass-production was not for her. She could do a "similar", but it would be enough different to know that even the new one was also a one-of-a-kind. You would be able to tell that it was from the same "gene pool" but still different. The only way that she will duplicate is if the owner of record needs a backup. For that we maintain copies of all pattern pieces on file. Even if you bought one and later sold it, we would need your statement that you had sold it before duplicating for the new adoptive parent. Steve http://www.thedummyshoppe.com |

That's cool that you keep the puppets individual special for the owners like that.

Now what has blown up, is that this is really your thread that I have kind of taken over defending my actions and you are the one getting lots of email every day informing you that you have post added. This I am truly sorry for. Buzz |

Thanks matt, I really do appreciate your commentary.
I remember a post you made where you wrote a remark about buying a figure, am I remembering correctly? If you did have you received him yet? Buzz |

Wait, what's that got to do with figure animations....
(Sorry Buzz, I just couldn't help myself.) Seriously, the figure wasn't a "him", it was a "her", hopefully he was able to get her, she was a great looking figure.

Like so many people The Muppets and Soap were my inspiration.
When it comes to animated mechanics for me it's all about "figure personality". One can have all the bells and whistles if they wish, but if their figure is nothing more than a talking prop nothing will make it come to life. Personally I'm happy with side to side eyes, raising eyebrows, (and blinkers maybe). |

I have only one "hard figure". When I do use him, I use the eye and eyebrow movement, with a less is more attitude. His weight and fact that he scares many adults and children keeps him out of the spotlight.

I haven't read all the way to the beginning of this thread. Wonder if I've checked in here before.
I've got several figures. All but one have multiple features. My original "Louie," with whom I worked for decades had only the mouth and the ball and socket neck. That's all I needed. The Hartz figure who became my second Louie has...only the mouth and the ball and socket neck. Louie doesn't need more than that. The others in the "family" have various additional features. I use 'em sometimes. Sometimes I don't. I figure extra features are lagniappe. If somebody notices that Louie, for instance, doesn't have raising eyebrows, I haven't done my job. -Philip |

I think moving eyes makes a hard puppet much more alive! A soft puppet has a lot of movement from his body

I agree, but a soft puppet with moving eyes, blinkers and eyebrows can knock 'em dead.

I have a soft puppet with side to side moving eyes, raising and lowering eyebrows. All I can say about it is it will take a lot of practice to be able to use it comfortably. I have spent lots of hours practicing and until now, I cant use it with ease.
My new hard figure from Tim Cowles is loaded with moving eyes, raising/lowering brows, winkers, stick out tongue and wiggling ears. It's a lot of fun using these animations...

I used to do this with my Poyner figure which has really big eyes... now I am trying it out with my Selberg.
Do you think it will pass as rolling eyes illusion for figures without the rolling eyes effect? Combined blinkers and side to side self centering eyes... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsAS_71_QO4

Looks just like he is rolling his eyes! Must be very smooth mechanics to be able to accomplish the effect.
