Questions for Café. Is there many Café members doing MP. This visual looks like magic. I have the DVD,but was wondering how many people actually do it.
I understand this takes practice, practice, practice!!! I guess my question is ...does it finally just click in,or is it one of those things that may be limited to some people and others may not be able to do it. Is there ideals on using those rubber balls to strengthen hands ,or any other ideals to help learn how to do this? I have never seen anyone doing this in person...only on vids! There may be a post on this in the 270 pages, but I did not go through all of them. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! My coin is kind of at the just flipping over stage! lol

I do quite a bit of muscle passing, it's quite an amazing utility tool. I definitely think most people can eventually learn it, it's mainly a matter of how long it takes to get it down. After doing this for awhile, you'll be amazed over how accurate you can get it, muscle passing it to an exact spot where you're mentally aiming, it's very useful, and looks like you're doing nothing! The main issue with muscle pass is its angle sensitivity, you pretty much need your audience (a limited number) to be in front of you, and being covered by the reciving hand or having the received hand to be covered by the muscle passing hand. If not, you better pray to god that coin that just flew out of your hand didn't catch some light on its way!
Some helpful sources to check out: The Complete Muscle Pass by David Kong (most useful, teaches you the muscle pass in details and applications for it based on the move) A Master of Muscle Pass by Shoot OGawa (Very hard stuff, teaches you to incorporate muscle pass as a utility tool for your routines, extremely useful once you get the move down) Coin's Akiras by Akira Fuji (not as useful as the previous two, yet a great source once you get it down) |

Thanks so much Orb !
I will check them out. Thanks for advice about angles...I did not even think of that as a factor!

For this particular move, I believe dollar size coins work better..

Both DVDs are cheaper than a f*ipper co*n, and you don't have to replace a r*bber b*nd either.

The muscle pass is something you really have to work for. I spent quite a while just trying to get the coin to even get off my hand. I was in the same flipping stage as you are. As you practice it more and more, you begin to develop the correct muscles for the technique, and you'll eventually gain more height over time. It's part knack, part practice.
Also, something that may help - I can muscle pass coins that don't have milled edges easier. Walkers are easier for me than Kennedy's. It may depend on your hand type. |

Thank you guys for all the advice and links for Shooter! He is quite amazing...never new of him before joining the Café. I think this is one of the coolest effects you can do.
I will do more research upon your recommendations . Currently I am starting with a silver dollar thinking the heavier weight may condition me to lighter coins for getting the height. I will try different coins also. I understand practice, practice, practice on this. I think I may found my sweet spot, but it may change with a half dollar. I have the Anti-Gravity Coin muscle pass DVD by Kris Nevling .This was not mentioned above...maybe not one of the best training DVD's to be using.

When I started with it I thought it was impossible and I was wondering if it wasn't an urban legend. Like Mav said, just getting it off my hand, heck to move at all was an accomplishment. I never approached it as something that I had to learn at once, just something that I worked on from time to time (I think patience is one of the greatest things that comes with age). Over time it has increasingly become an effective tool in my box.

Believe it or not, I learned it best from Brian Platt's download video called the ROV Tumbling Muscle Click Pass. He doesn’t go into passing it straight up like some, but instead placing it carefully to use in his effect. Once I got it down for that I was able to do it pretty much any which way.
Thanks! Jim |

Thanks for assurance it can be done! I have never seen anyone do it in person. I just really like the visual of flying up.
Can see allot of applications for use !

I just saw Rich Ferguson do it... And decided that I was going to take time to learn it. When I did this I practiced until there was a big bruised, dark red circle on my palm. I love it. To laymen, this is almost supernatural seeming

It does take some time to learn. I kept practicing on this but it was not my priority, since I'm aware it would take time. It takes some amount of patience. You can have this mentality as well since I did it with good height in a year or two.

I am learning it from "The Complete Muscle Pass" by David Kong. And I can recommend the dvd.
What I found is that it is more difficult to MP while holding coins at the fingertips in the same hand. Somehow the hand gets cramped. Just practice and practice with patience and you get it. |

I definitely had the same circle bruise for a long time. I find that, when learning, only about 15 times or so are useful. After that, my palm wasn't able to grip or shoot the coin as much. Anyone else find this the case?

Try practicing with a larger coin. A larger coin should be easier due to the larger circumference. This allows you to grip the coin without having to squeeze so much. Then again every hand is different. Just give it a try. This exercise will just teach the muscle how it should feel like when doing a muscle pass. I found that it is learned easier horizontally. You will gain confidence and the muscle will strengthen. Once you get the feel and the coin gets going from hand to hand (note that this is the best time to practice with both hands), you will find that doing it vertically will be almost as easy.

I've been working on the MP for about 6 weeks now and finally can get my Morgan to jump about 2 inches
the only problem I have is that my pinky and ring finger close occasionally blocking the coin from jumping. I find this happens more often than not. I'm focusing on stopping this motion, and it's a real challenge at this point. I kinda worried about muscle memory and all, any of you out there have the same problem with your MP when you first started? any suggestions how to stop the closing of the fingers besides focusing on the movement? |
