I have yet to post any pictures of my close-up tables or other various magic items I have made over the past 4 years but decided I would brave the harsh sands of criticism and take it in stride.

Here is my close-up pad I use around the house. I know it isn't the prettiest cow in the pasture but maybe some more experienced woodworkers could give me some constructive criticism.

I made this one about 3 years ago and used a black stain to try and age the wood just a little bit. I was happy about the results but found it didn't translate so well on bigger projects.

I like it- Very personal and looks used and enjoyed. care to share your thoughts on how and why you designed it the way you did?

I made it so I could have a medium sized pad to practice on while sitting on the couch.

Before this one I had a behemoth of a close-up pad that took up half of the coffee table.(see pic links below) I wanted to put some storage under the pad because my little kids have sticky fingers literally and figuratively. I would have to check their piggy banks for my English Pennies and after candy hands gets a hold of your nicely broken in deck of cards it's time to hit the woodshop! lol.

I used Forstner bits for the coin slots and standard trim molding from Home Depot for the outside molding. To be honest I think I made the whole thing for under 50 bucks considering I already owned the stain from other projects.

This was my larger size one sitting on a rolling stand

In the last picture you can see it took up half the table. I sealed the wood but regret never staining it.

The larger close-up tabletop was built for right around 50 bucks too.

On a side note: Mr Baker your word means the world to me. You are an amazing craftsman. Thank you for your kind words.

Splendid work Loopback!

I love your choice of molding and stain. They make for a rather "magical" looking piece, I think. Something any wizard would be proud of. Smile

I've been wanting to make a close-up pad out of some materials leftover from some cabinets I made for my daughter and your design gives me some good ideas.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Very nice! On the large table I like the way the trim points you to the center.

My Grandfather and Father were both cabinet makers, and I have to say you did an excellent job.

I covered it with 1/4" auto headliner and then velvet over that.

Great Having seen your work in person, I know the photos don't do proper justice. Are you taking orders?
