Hey guys,
The new show is now live! This is the second part of our Blackpool Highlights show and on this weeks show we sit down with Rune Klan, Garrett Thomas and John Bannon. There is also an exclusive first look at a new Garrett Thomas routine. Next week we are going back to normal but we would still love your feedback as this is something we might do again in the future - so let us know what you think! Thanks guys Craig Link to show - Click Here! |

GRRRRRR8 show as always guys! You have to LOVE John, Rune, and Garett.
Garett in particular floored me as much as he did with Craig. Does that effect has a name? Btw I love the concept of the show as it was this week as well as the previous. Do continue with the most exellent reviews Craig and Dave (and John).

Great! Entertaining! However...
Too much talking and not enough reviewing in my opinion. What used to be the review of 4 or 5 products with an independent honest review not in front of the creator has now become a 90% chatshow with a trick thrown in. And what did this weeks show contain for us mentalists? ZERO! - There is more to this art than card and coin tricks! Was Richard Osterlind the only mentalist that attended Blackpool this year and no other Mentalist products released? Please get back to the old format as then we at least got straight reviews of more products without the creators being there so that an honest review can be given.

Craig:
I, too, was thinking about L & L audiences and was wondering if you are channeling them? Some strong reactions to challenge the "best" of the L&L crowd, brother.

Simply put I love magic and I love watching magic. When I am watching a fellow performer I switch off my magic brain and just want to be entertained. If I am I react strongly. Even if I know how an effect is done but I can appreciate the method or the plot I will still raft strongly. I remember a couple of years ago Danny Garcia thinking I Eas making fun of him cause of how I was reacting to an effect he was showing me. I just live magic and cannot help but to react appropriately. I have performed in enough competitions and lectured for enough magicians for know how it feels when that guy on the front row stares at you with a knowing look in his eye - it's not good If I see something I do not like I also have no problem telling the performer as I feel that is the only way they can improve. I think that typical mentality of saying something is good even though it's not is just rubbish. So I hope that answers your question. I love magic, yes maybe I react too strongly at times and for that I'm sorry but that's the way I am. Craig |

Our focus always has been and always will be reviews - Honest reviews where we say what we think. However we have had a lot of requests in the past for us to have guests on the show, we knew we wanted to do something special for Blackpool so we thought we would kill two birds with one stone. We also knew that if we were going to interview guests we would want to do it slightly differently to how it is normally done and hopefully we have achieved that. We might still revisit this format in the future for one off shows but as of next week we will be back to normal with four reviews of some of the best and worst magic that has just been released to the community. Regarding Mentalism by the way, both Dave and I love Mentalism but we knew that the six people we interviewed most viewers would be interested in listening to. There are other mentalists I would love to 'have on the sofa' but that we have to wait for another day - as I said we have reviews to do!!! Craig |

I think Craig is a lucky guy - it's fun to be fooled and a lot of us have a hard time switching our brains off and going into that mindset. I wish I could watch a cups and balls routine and be fooled, but I've studied SO much material on the subject that it rarely happens. I've started reading and researching so much and learning so many different things, that I can't help but watch from a different perspective. I would LOVE to be able to turn that off more often and just be entertained. It does still happen and I love it every time.
Reminds me of sitting in Dean Dill's shop in L.A. last year. There was a kid in there who was about 15 and had just been accepted into the junior's program at the Castle. He was talking about some of the effects he loved and said, "you know the one I'd really love to learn? The one where the guy puts a bottle into a paper bag, and then just crunches up the bag and throws it over his shoulder. I LOVE that trick and I have no idea how it's done." One of the regulars just smiled and looked at him and said, "I envy you." My thoughts exactly. Fortunately there's a lot of good stuff coming out and I shared Craig's reactions, both with the Osterlind routine last week (which I promptly bought and LOVE) and Garrett's three card monte this week. Fooled me bad.

I like the fact that Craig complains about the overacting L&L audience and then almost jumps off his chair, jawdropped, during one of the tricks that uses basic moves and fake cards.
The trick is great. I know Craig's reaction is geniune. I just wanted to point that out. ;-) This is a great show and seems too short! You'll never please everyone so do your own stuff as you wish. Both formats are great on their own. Having said that, the ideal format for the perfect show IMO would be : review, review, interview (of one past "worker of the week" winner, for example), review, review. best, RAPH.
NEW E-BOOK! Sneak: 12 card tricks based on the same principle.

Was Rune drunk?
He sure looked it! Maybe it wasn't agreed for him to go on until after he had been at the trough for quite some time - then he walks to the couch with a big 'ol glass of beer!
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I thought it was great. Hey, as they said, it was two in the morning and I'm very confident that they weren't all there sipping coffee at that time! Totally impromptu with everyone just kicking back and having some fun.
Craig has said more than once that this is not a new format; so for those that are getting so uptight about not seeing reviews......RELAX! I for one would like to see more of these types of laid back interviews interspersed with their reviews. When you think about it, I don't think anyone has the right to complain when its free, and as far as I can ascertain, Craig and Dave aren't making any money on this.

Great show as always guys and I'm hoping Garrett brings that effect out promptly so I can buy it immediately because I've always loved the 3 Card Monte routine and own about 3 of them if you include Color Monte as well.
1 thing I'd like to ask you Craig is if you could review the True Astonishments DVD Set and give us your views on what you think of it as a whole. |

To this day, and I'm 64, it still brings out that "child like" feeling in me. Garrett's Three Card Monte knocked me on the floor so I can fully understand Craig's reaction. WOW!

Criag said: Let's clear this up right now Rune coin magic is magic for magicians? Rune said: YES!
moments later Craig said: Seriously Rune you think tha coin magic is magic for magicians? Rune said: YEAH! I laugh so much with Rune Klan! Was a great show and the good thing about this format is that we can know magicians as humans not only as "magicians" Thankyou guys! |

The change in format was good from my point of view. I loved watching these magicians actually perform their own creations "live". I would have loved to learn even more about their view of magic and performing. I can't help but think that it was a missed opportunity in this regard. We had a chance to see some of that but the opportunity certainly was not maximized. These are some of the great performers and creative thinkers in magic today. Glad you enjoyed Blackpool and appreciate your putting together a show regardless of what must have been a hectic schedule. Looking forward to enjoying your future reviews.
