Hey everyone,
I just start to learn the push-through shuffle (o well, I worked on it before; however, it was a wrong method, so I started to learn it again). I have learned the method from Jason England, Martin Nash and Damian Nieman for the mechanics. I keep working on the mechanics everyday (o, I am using the one from Jason England) Now I am working on the "theory" of how a push through shuffle should look like. Someone told me that a push through shuffle should look like a real table shuffle with cutting a pack to top afterwards ---- the strip out of the pack should just look like you cut the down half to the top. So, I start to think: If it is the case, then it means that the rhythm of my table riffle shuffle should be the same as the rhythm of my push through shuffle? (That is: the push motion and the square motion between them should on the same rhythm) also for the timing of making a cut afterwards between them. From how I practice my coin materials, that a real "take" and a false "take" of the coin should look like the same ---- applying of this theory, that's how I come my conclusion of the push through shuffle. After I, temporary, confirmed my thought on the above, I find that the way I do the table shuffle is moving the top packet to the right when I move the top packet to the left during the push through shuffle. So I think again: Should I change my real table riffle shuffle with moving the top packet to the left from now on, so that it mirrors my push through shuffle?? Since I only move the top packet to the left when I want to do the push through shuffle, it obvoiusly gives a sign that I am doing to do that. (Same theory to people who move their hands up then down when doing a classic pass ----- in my opinion, the split second of motion gives the sign that you are going to do the pass) OR it is MY problem that only move the top pack to the right while doing the real table shuffle, and not doing the opposite for the real shuffle also?? - Arthur |

Your false shuffles should look like your true shuffles, but be careful of overpractice, especially if you're learning the shuffle for card-table stuff rather than magic.

Poonchingyip apparently knows the mecanism of a push through, and was asking about the way to cut the deck during this kind of shuffle, so this movie is my suggestion to help him - with 2 different ways to cut the deck. Anyway, thank you for your encouragements, stoneunhinged.

Oh, don't get me wrong. You're doing alright with it, and deserve a compliment. But poonchingyip claimed he has already "learned" the technique from Jason and others, and your shuffle isn't yet on the same level as Jason's, so I wasn't really clear how your video could help him in a way that Jason's twenty or thirty minute lesson couldn't. I didn't mean no offense. No no.

Don't worry - I respect your opinion, anyway. And thanks for your answer...

I think the shuffle looks fine.
I would like to see it with a different camera angle. I think if it was video taped from a different camera angle it would look more in context. Also I think if you use bee cards doing a push through is a little cleaner. Just like in the false deals - the false shuffles also look better - cleaner when using bee cards. Just a few thoughts and suggestions. Cheers!

I am posting this video because it was requested. Please understand that I don't want to compete with anybody, and that I consider Mrs Jason England and Steve Forte as the true Masters. Just for sharing:

Some push throughs really, really look good. Others can be spotted a mile away. The grass is green.
