I have been asked to say a few words at my son's wedding rehersal dinner.
His proposal was a rather elaborate surprise affair (he was a fully costumed knight on a horse, down on one knee in front of her 1st grade class etc.) I was thinking of using my torch to rose with piece of flash paper after dinner. My dilema is the proper patter. I would then switch the gimmicked rose for the real thing and present it to his fiance. Any ideas?? Boy, can I use some help on this one. The dinner is planned for this weekend. Thanks to all responders in advance. I will report which routine I used, with the requisite byline. P.S. Afterthought. I could somehow integrate the presentation with a fire wallet (borrow the bride's father's wallet, switch it w/ the fire wallet, light the wallet and use it to light the torch to rose etc).

Try this:
"My Lords and Ladies, good gentle people all, I stand before you, the Father of the Groom, humble before this assemblage and in delight and awe of the love of these two young people for each other. "Love is a divine thing, like unto the spark that brings life to the cold clay from which we come. Like unto the spark that brings forth beauty from the meagerest beginnings." Do the flash production "And thus, by the magical transformation of mere parchment to flawless rose, so does the magic of love transform two people into a Wedded One!" (present the rose) Having worked at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament and Rennaissance Faires for the better part of three decades, this approach to such a production (while NOT the words I use, but close) is a solid lock on getting tears from the Bride to Be, her parents and many of the guests as well. Trust me, this plays extremely well. Audience tested, magician approved! Use it in good health. Lee Darrow, C.Ht.
