Within the pages of Paul Harris’s book Art of Astonishment Volume 1 is an illusion called “Light and Heavy Dime”. This illusion is a strange effect where a spectator cannot lift a dime from the surface of a table once a penny has been circled around the dime a few times. I’m curious has anyone used this effect and if so how did it go over with the spectator(s)?

Man ! How could I have never seen anything like that. It seems quite interesting though !
On to YouTube now If you can share a video then it might be helpful to others as well. |

Unfortunately I do not have anything to film this illusion with, but I will look around to see what I can find. In the mean time If you have access to AOA volume 1 just look it up and see if this is something that fits you performing style.

Hiya, Geoff. I tried this out in high school and to this day my parents have a heavy dime affixed to part of the house! Obviously, I was also intrigued by this trick. I must admit that I didn't play with it much. And now that I am older and, I hope, wiser, I'm not sure that this would be a satisfying effect for a spectator. It sort of seems like ending the Cut and Restored Rope with the rope magically cut; or like ending the Linking Rings with the rings magically linked rather than unlinked.
