Here's a nice probability puzzle from John Barrow's delightful book, 100 essential things you didn't know you didn't know.

You want to collect the whole set of 50 baseball cards. You buy them one at a time in wrapped packages so you don't know which one you'll be getting. Assuming that you have an equal chance of getting any particular card, how many cards must you buy on average to get the whole set?

Part two: Assume you have a friend who wants to do the same and you agree to swap cards when necessary. How many cards in total will the two of you have to buy on average to get two complete sets?
