Hello

First of all if the topic is in the wrong section section I apologize and feel free to move it.

My name is Bruno Michaux, I'm 24. I'm from Belgium and I've been doing magic for 10 years now.

When I was a teenager (15) my first stage name was "magic Bruno". 5 Years later I dropped this name because I sounded like a ...teenager. I started thinking of a new one. I chose Vairon because I have different colored eyes (one blue and one brown) and in french it's called "les yeux vairon".

A short time later I changed "Vairon" to "Vayron". The phonetic was different and it sounded more "american"

But after a while, I realized that nobody could remember that name. Quite a bad thing for an artist ... and vayron means absolutely nothing in any language. Also no one could pronounce it without hearing it first.

So 2 months ago I decided to change. But what name to choose ? It's going to follow my artistic career for a while so I prefer to think twice.

This is the condition : easy to remember, no mistakes possible for the pronunciation.

This is the options I've had : Black Bruno, Bruno Bruce, Bruno Adams, Bruce Valentino, Bruno Valentino.

The last option was my favorite but today I've found this : http://www.brunovalentino.com/

So now I'm quite lost. If you could help me it would be grateful Smile

Sorry for my English mistakes

I don't think anyone can give you a name, but you are on the right track with your analysis.

What can you think of that will reinforce your name? A color, shape, plant, animal, etc. etc. ANYTHING that can trigger recollection might be good. Copperfield used the name of a literary figure. Some acts use a name similar to an already established name or groups of words; for example, one might assume that the Irish musician Gilbert O'Sullivan was playing off the more famous songwriting duo of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Or you could simply use Bruno. That's not a bad name at all.

Ed Edwards, Marko Macron, Lawrence Oliver III, Philip VonKlepto, Steve Stauffer.

Most use their first and middle name.

Thanks for your pieces of advice.

I also thought to use just "Bruno" but isn't it maybe too simplistic ?

My middle name is "Jacques" so maybe Bruno Jack ?

"Bruno" would remind me of the film of the same name with sasha baron Cohen. Probably not the Image you are looking for!

What do you think of Bruno Black ?

As far as the movie "Brüno" is concerned, it didn't have a lot of success here in Belgium. I don't know about the US.

Now one thing is clear : I won't change my first name.

Hmmmm from a marketing perspective perhaps see what URL's are available

Being American I'm not crazy about the name "Bruno" for a magician, the visual it conjures up doesn't fit for me

When I'm thinking magician I'm not thinking to hire a "Bruno"

What about using just your last name "Michaux", lots of opportunities for catchy alliteration there

"The magic of Michaux", The Mysteries of Master Magician .... Michaux, Michaux ~ Man of Magic
and so on .....

Vick : I prefer to avoid Michaux. In french the name doesn't sound like an artist at all. And phonetically, Michaux means half warm so many jokes are possible : mi chaud mi froid, etc.

Anyway thanks for your pieces of advice.

Houdini ? well I don't perform illusions nor escapes yet ...

I'll stay with Bruno Black until I find a better one.

I'd say just "Bruno"...easy to remember, easy to spell. Plus, you can incorporate the name into a stylized logo.

You can call your show "The Magic of Bruno" or some such thing. When it comes to names recognition in a crowded marketplace, simpler is better.

I use my full name simply because "Mike" is too dang generic"

So, my show is "Mike Maturen's World of Wonder".

I'm actually going through the same struggle with names right now.

I'm considering going by only my last name too. However, I'm realizing it would be important to add something else to the end of it. I actually like Vairon instead of Vayron. Personally I think the phonetics of it sounds better in American English. But, it needs something more to associate it with an image. That would depend on the kind of act you have.

The imagery I think is everything. When they think of your name, it should INSTANTLY be associated with an image. Also, once you choose the name, I would research a bit of marketing and design your promotional materials to express that image further.

It might help to write down the images you think you want people to think of when they hear your name. That could help you better understand how your name should flow.
