If you got an e-mail from Gazzo this morning, claiming that he was in trouble in Spain, ignore it. I spoke to him about 10 minutes ago to see if it was genuine. It isn't. He is at home and is doing fine.

Scams can be disastrous. My wife works in a law firm and one client fell for a Nigerian letter and lost her savings and her home. Be careful.

Yesterday my family attorney called me. He was concerned that my mom was coming to him, to get a check for $3,700 to help my troubled nephew in Mexico. I got hold of my mother (much to her surprise), and told her not to send money anywhere. Apparently someone called my 80 year old father and pretended to be a panicked grandchild. If my mom had the cash in her bank, she would have gone to Western Union and I would have never known about it. My nephew was eventually contacted at home in the US.

Yesterday I won $240,000,000 in a Nigerian Lottery. I sent them my bank account number to collect my prize.

Before the Nigerian Lotto scam hit the internet, I received a notice from the "Nigerian Lotto Authority" in the mail. It was scrawled in pencil on what appeared to be a torn-off section of a brown paper bag. Needless to say, I was somewhat suspicious.

My issue with this whole mess is that now, when I'm legitimately trapped in a Spanish prison somewhere and posting my pleas for help on the Internet, no one will believe me.
...I assume Spanish prisoners all have Internet access, of course.

Evidently all the Spanish e-mail connections go through Nigeria somehow.
I find it very interesting that all of the Nigerian "barristers" have yahoo or gmail addresses, even the ones who work for Barclay's.

My favorite thing about having browsed that 419 site (I spent hours on it once) was the way in which people got back at the scammers. Sometimes risky but when it DID pay off it was pretty funny.

Most of these go back the the Spanish Prisoner which started after the Spanish American War. Just somthing about a cry for help that cannot be resisted. As for the Nigerians, hate to say it but they got time on there hands to try anything and need to get lucky just once. Talk about the Nigerian Lottery.

The funniest part of the Nigerian letters is that they almost always start off with some odd misinterpretation of the term "Dear" in the salutation.
Beloved (whatever), for example.

Peter Wardell lost 1000 pounds on this scam as he wired the money after asking the emailer what is Gary Animals real name. He feels like a right tool now as he should have asked a harder question or asked to speak to him . I got the same email and replied "Dear Gazzo , walk you *** you'll loose weight that way" . See that shows I'm a real friend as I'm more concerned about his health than money
