Even veterans have to be careful. When I try to help by mentioning any one of my books - guess I've written too many - or mention one of my moves that'd help the poster - I'll get someone out of the woodwork screaming that I'm plugging my stuff. No way to avoid it - in some, many, cases in order to help I have no choice.

Yes yes.

Some of the most harsh and critical comments come from men who are still little boys, playing with their magical toys in some lonely room. Their only personal power comes from banging on a computer keyboard, trying to make someone else feel as small as they are. Life is too short.

I am working hard to get my 50 posts . . . and trying not to be a blithering fool.

So far, I have seen no blithering from you! LOL. Your best bet is to find the section on the Café that talks about the style of magic you like best, then engage in the conversations. 50 posts really do come before you know it!

THANK YOU for posting this!
I was wondering this same thing the other day, thinking "Surely there must be people dying to sell stuff to a new magician like me, since they don't use it!" Now to make 50 posts NOT look like spam! (Kidding...) |

I even appreciate pointers to good threads! Sometimes that SEARCH function is just too cumbersome to find things effectively. Gotta go forum by forum, subject by subject with the key words. ARGH.

Finally the answer I was looking for. I know I'm not the only one with "extra" stuff to sell and a huge need for new stuff as well. I will continue the quest for 50 and do my best to be patient.

Kung Fu, there is an easier way to search with this link
http://searchthemagiccafe.com/ Copy and paste it, a HUGE timesaver. |

In the meantime for selling and buying second hand stuff, may I suggest magicweek? This is my source of secondhand shizznit until I get to my 50 post count. So frustrating, ive only recently started posting on the Café. Been a smelly lurker for 3 years almost. Could have probably got to 50 ages ago if id realised there was a prize for it.

I see many posts that are not very helpful. Like (essentially) "mee too", or "Wish I had known earlier""Hey Charles. Long time", "agree with X", etc but with many more words and more background. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of good content and advice, but I fear that they 50 post quota makes a culture that encourages people to post a lot.

Anyone who is actually studying and practicing magic will have no problem getting to fifty posts. However, anyone who is just looking for exposed secrets will have a hard time making fifty legit posts. Also, anyone looking to buy, sale or trade will at least have to contribute to this forum and become part of this community before getting this privilege.

I didn't realize that these other forums existed until just a while ago. That motivates me to do some more discussing of things. I'm currently bidding on a couple of 40% silver kennedy halves on ebay.

I've got a question that is somewhat relevant. If I'm looking for a set of (say, for example) 1967 kennedy halves that match, do people often have/trade those in the trading forum? I have so many coins, but I find it so hard to match a set of them. Even with themselves in terms of wear.
