As we all know, Tenyo tricks come with instructions describing how the trick is done - at least, how the Tenyo creators intended them to be done. Some are terrible (http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=307462&forum=258&66), some are excellent (http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=295628&forum=258&73).
And some have been improved upon (IMO) by practitioners. For instance: Burglar Ball The instructions call for the box to be covered by a cloth. But 'playwithsand' uses a variation where the box is always visible - much more impressive. I use this version and it blows people away (it's not hard to figure out if you know how the trick is done). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeGRZLAhm8w Ribbon Forever Here the instructions call for the ribbon to be pulled from the plastic wallet to show the restoration. But 'cormatches' (our own Magic Patagonia) keeps the ribbon in place and reveals the transformation within the window - as close to perfect magic as you can get. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6IHiW7UfpU Dynamic coins Usually performed with a bang ring, this is a great trick. But 'boldmereR' does it WITHOUT the ring, making it much more magical (and confounding everyone in this Café as to how he does it: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=258&8 ). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La-cmq3Ahh0 Here is also a tip site for a number of Tenyo tricks, many offered by non-Tenyo employees: http://www.tenyo.co.jp/magic_en/tips/ Anyone else have examples? |

These are really great examples, particularly the Dynamic Coins being done without the ring.
Ok, I'll meet you at the place near the thing where we went that time.

On their website Tenyo offers some "Hot Tips" as well. I like quite a few of them....

I usually just follow the instructions when doing these tricks but my son likes to innovate and come up with his own way of doing them.
Here are a couple of them that he came up with that I found to be interesting: Floating Card He puts the deck in the spectator's hand and then holds the spectator's hand from below "to keep it steady". He then makes the card float while the spectator is holding the deck. What I like about doing it this way is that it appears the the magician is not touching the deck at all when the card starts floating. Also since the spectators hand is being held in front of them it is very difficult for them to bend down and peek under the floating card which was to me always the biggest problem with the trick. Menta Marvel In this routine the covers are not written on at all. Instead he writes his prediction on the right side of the slate. Then he covers up the right part of slate and has the spectator write his answer on the left part of the slate. At the end when the covers are removed the prediction and the item the spectator wrote are on the same slate one next to the other. This to me seemed more impressive then having them on two separate slates. Billscape/Mystery Poodle Not really a different way of doing the tricks but a cute routine done by combining 2 Tenyo tricks. A $100 dollar bill is put into the Billscape case. A guard dog(poodle) is put on top of the wallet to guard the money. Suddenly the dog starts barking! The case is quickly opened to find that indeed the $100 bill was stolen as it has vanished from the wallet. You could probably follow this up with Unusual Suspects to find out who did it. Feel free to let me know what you think of these or offer your own improvements. |

Floating Card great idea to avoid the spectator to peek under...also he gets more involved with the levitation. |

You can also involve the spectator more by having him wiggle his fingers over the deck to make the card float and sink

Stereo, not sure if you already included the tips from Angelo's site in your blog....?
For anyone interested, here's the link http://www.tenyoworld.co.uk/tipsandroutines.htm

I've seen these tricks, but I do not want to loot the tips of his site... If one day Angelo decides to close its site for one reason or another so I ask him if he do not mind if I use his info before they disappear. For the moment this is not the case and people who want to see these tips can simply go to the Angleo website.

Great attitude, stereo! However, simply going to Angelo's site does not seem that easy - yesterday I could not access http://www.tenyoworld.co.uk directly, only the subpages were accesible, that's why I asked.
But maybe it was only temporary? PS Of course did I assume you would have aked for his permission...!

Talking about old and improved, I remembered I once bought a second hand Future Clock and when I got it I noticed thet seller made it look more 'old'. I looked it up for you guys and took a picture:
As you can see the clock itself has been covered with gold paint (needs some repaint in some areas) and the cover/shell has been modified with leather-looking pieces. There was also a nice box where the clock fits in. Very nice if you ask me. This guy on Youtube seems to have done a similar thing with Angelo Carbone's Squeeze thru: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LdbE419FfI and Tenyo's Ultra Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xg33eUSDVo ... or did he just make his own version of the tricks from scratch ... or is it a cheap ripoff? I don't know. Perhaps some ideas for those using Tenyo in actual performances |

Awesome modifications, looks stunning! I really wish Tenyo would have had a 'vintage line' with all the props looking like that...

Somewhat recently there were a couple of pieces in the Martinka auctions that had been covered with wood veneers. They were stunning. They looked like stage props.

Illusion Truck
The usual presentation is with a folded up kerchief with the lion inserted to make it disappear (once again, something covered up): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSb6XgyiBjM But these two presenters forgo the "cover up" to make the vanish happen in plain sight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VunUNT08lHA&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMnXjU4bjg4 |
