When performing Blue Crystal (great effect!), I don't use the plastic covered playing card that came with the trick. While it looks cool for the card to penetrate the surface, the plastic card looks too suspicious. In fact, I don't call attention to the box being a blue crystal at all. I find that borrowing a spectator's ring and having it slowly sink into the box is much more impactful.
I weave in a story about magicians always being on the cutting edge of new technology, which can be magical until it becomes commonplace, like electricity, magnets. etc. I borrow a ring and allow the spectator to tap on the plastic surface of the box, then place the ring on the surface. I talk about a new type of plastic that can allow objects to penetrate it by simply waving another special piece of plastic over it (the blue plastic sheet), which I then do. After having the ring penetrate the surface I move the blue plastic sheet away and slide the ring around in the box, all the way to the corners, so they can really tell it's inside. Since I'm showing it at that point without the blue plastic, the ring isn't going to look blue, which is another reason not to use the playing card--why would the card turn blue, but not the ring? I tell them I have to simply flip the blue plastic over to reverse the process. Once it's risen back to the top, I then offer the ring back to them and allow them to touch the surface of the box. |

For Mystery China Box.
I like to perform it with young males who are into sports (no shortage of them). What I do is say "would you like to play a game of Chinese basketball? The closer tube is 2 points and the further tube is a 3 pointer." It drives them crazy when I continue to beat them. |

That's indeed a great patter Azza!
But unless you in reality indeed are a white talking Tenyo collecting rabbit I'm afraid your avatar will be deleted ... . You have to post a picture of yourself (tweaked as much as you want, but is has to be you) ... not exactly a rule I like here at The Café to be honest |

The little picture of me was taken on a trip to Vienna (thus the Prater Riesenrad in the backgorund) when visiting my old friend Lubor....

When David Roth used to run the magic counter at FAO Schwartz, decades ago, they carried many Tenyo tricks. He came up with his own handlings for about half a dozen, all of which involved sleight of hand (some quite difficult). He would demo the tricks with his own handlings.

Wonder if Roth could be convinced to film some of his old Tenyo presentations/handlings... would love to see that! Could be a nice addition to the Tenyo portion of the Genii Bash!<g>...
