Considering that acrylic paints weren't available til the 1950s, it sounds as if something is not quite right with the picture. Having said that, it IS beautiful.

For its age it looks to be in too perfect condition if you know what I mean !!!!
Also to travel / use on a daily basis,,,,there are no signs of wear (Corners etc). I would proceed with caution. |

It probably is legit. And I don't think this is arcylic paint. The way the paint is set into the canvas it looks like oil paint. These banners were used on the inside of string shows and would be the entrance to a small area for mitt readings. There were often a small stage set up in front or to the side of the banner where the mystic would do a bit of Q & A for the tip. They would then pitch private readings inside their room there. There are a number of these pictured in Al Stencell's latest book.

The configuration is still in use...one is usually at the Del Mar Fair inside one of the trade show buildings. Her same type front though is made of plywood rather than canvas but is really attractive...a deep blue background.

Good question. Probably move the wife and her shoe collection out to make room.

I remember a book dealer who had a mounted, multi-sheet "Alexander" poster on the landing at the top of the stairs of his house.

I know you wife...you're better off not attempting to get rid of the shoes. She and my wife could talk shop about shoes.

Heck, the banner is gone, I'll take the T&G wall that it is hanging on. It all looks good. I'll have to post my phrenology banner when I get home. I'm off to the vent convention.

I am looking for an old phrenology banner. Think such items must be nonexistant now.
