I just want to check and see whether I've gotten into a bad habit or not. When I hold the deck in Mechanic's grip my thumb extends past the deck about an inch or so. It's comfortable but I've noticed some have their thump tip flush with the deck. Is there a reason for this or is it personal preference?

The answer is not to concentrate on the position of the thumb, but on the position of the left little finger.

Aim to hold the deck so that the tip of the little finger rests against the inner right corner of the deck, ready to hold a pinky break.

Let the thumb fall where it may according to the anatomy of your hand.

I have rather large hands and if I would hold the deck with the thumb flush with the outer edge, my pinky would not be able to engage the inner right corner.

Hope this helps

Ciao for now

Thanks! That's what I was hoping to hear! It seemed to me that if I had to change my grip it'd be like starting from scratch.
