Been done?
Tassel becomes the ball or a wand? Not cool to do the same trick twice - good thing I brought another Fez. Wadddayathink? PS - if you turn the thing mouth up it works instead of a cup during other tricks.

Somewhat related... At one time I was working the Camel smoking tents sponsored by RJ Reynolds at an ampitheater in Alabama. They had these little pop-up paper fezzes, as table tents. I took a couple of them home one night to fashion a chop cup. It worked. I just used regular chop balls, but produced a pack of camels as the final load. I later soldered a brass insert to make the thing more solid, and covered it with the paper fez. It still looked the same but didn't destroy in use. I still have it here somewhere.

I think Paul Romhany has a chop fez I've seen it for sale, but not performed.

Paul's isn't chopped.
Chanin had a Fez routine, but it wasn't chopped, either.

I used a Fez for a Malini type routine producing a coconut load, but quit when I came up with the rubber toilet plunger. Gave the idea of using a coconut to John Carney as he wanted a load that was "organic" (you saw him do it on Letterman).

Donnie at RNT II and I over are working on a high quality set of Fez-Style Cups for a routine I'm working putting together. It's a comedy type of routine with lots of fun bits of business along the way. The Fez cups are slated to chopped which will hold the tassels on the tops. The tassels could become the balls or a final load similar two Tommy Wonder's routine. A magnetic wand tip will also allow for a the tassels to get stuck on the end of the wand for a fun bit of comedy.
Donnie may want to weight in on this too. But we're planning on marketing these for those who want a unique and fun set of cups for a comedy or family kind of routine. There will be nothing like these cups on the market and we will include a DVD of my routine and ideas. I'll keep you posted. Jimmy |

Pete,
Currently, I'm moving my lips. I haven't figured out how to add ventriloquism to the cups and balls yet... Maybe a little distant voice from under a cup. I'll work on that. Jimmy |

Mr. Peabody's magic aka Arte Severtsen put out a chop cup mini fez called Fezination.

Wasn't sure if it was chopped or not. I make the mistake of calling any routine with one cup a chop cup.

Recently saw a toy set of the Cups and Balls called "find the monkey" put out by Accoutriments inc.
Not a chop, but there you go... http://www.stevensmagic.com/index.php?ma......d=111855

I've have the "find the monkey." It's a cute little toy.
I'd love to get info on those other two routines mentioned. If anyone has any. I've looked and can't find anything. Thanks, Jimmy |

The Chanin routine was called "Chanin's F. E. Z." I recently got a set from George Daily. I have not seen another one. He used four black corks with pieces of ribbon glued to the top and side to represent tassles.
The "Find the Monkey" on the Stevens web site is an augmentation of a game sold by a novelty company. Mark Burger worked out a routine with the props. It has some possibilities. The Romhany routine was available from Hocus Pocus, I think. They don't have any more of them in stock.

Don Alan used a Fez for his coin and Lump of Coal production back in the 1960's, Ireland's/Magic Inc. sold the fezes at that time. I still have mine, I use a 4" die production with mine.
There is routine in Tarbell Course with a hat and paper balls routine, that may work as well with a fez. I cannot say if Chanin's routine is in his hard bound book or not as I never seen a table of contents for the book. It is suppose to be all his publications combined into on book. The only thing with Chanin material, he would give instructions one way and would demo his items useing another method. That is mainly why he was the only person who could sell the tricks, so I have heard from magic dealers. |

The Don Alan routine was not a chop routine.
Chanin's routine is not in the hardbound book.
