Completely glossing over the issues of copyrights and usage....
You can buy CD's of traditional circus music (Google is your friend) Traditional circus music is a lot of classic marches! (i.e. thunderer march) There are tons of songs that are ideal for performing. But you need to find what works for you and your style. I am not an Itunes user but I have used my daughter's account to research some music - this is a great way to sample some music before buying. Here are some genres to explore. Swing, Dixieland, Jazz, Ragtime, Bluegrass, Classical, New Age, Movie Soundtracks... Here are some particular performers I have used. Maynard Ferguson, Scott Joplin, Benny Goodman, John Tesh, Herb Albert, Robert Randolph, Preservation Hall... This should get you started. Kevin |

The Lock family site is closed, but the Make It Magic CDs are produced by Arthur Stead at http://www.arthurstead.com - very professional and a wide selection for different seasons. Prices for these royalty free CDs are very reasonable.
As mentioned, professional clown Randy Christensen has some good material too at http://www.randysinfo.com - check the Creative Performance CDs as well at A Time for Silent Screen CD - under the Resources link - royalty free, once purchased. We produced and ran a circus themed show for a few years and here are two links to pieces we had custom produced by a blind musician friend of mine, Mike Tyo. He arranged and played these pieces, on the fly, in a single take. Amazing talent. I own the music but feel free to use them in your show if they work for you - please don't resell. Right-click to download/save: http://kkistler.powweb.com/circus/victory.mp3 http://kkistler.powweb.com/circus/fount.mp3 Regarding the ethics of music usage, I'm not the copyright police but it is important to honor those who make their living making music. Paying the proper fees (or at least emailing for permission to use certain music) is the right thing to do. None of us like it when our original material is stolen - not even the creators of music. Best, Kerry

In addition to the suggestions above, I have actually had very good results in my show by listening to motion picture soundtracks, Disney soundtracks, etc. I either get a CD of them and transfer them to my IPOD, Create a playlist with them in the order I want them to play and Voila! SHOW TOOONZ!

SOUNDS OF THE CIRCUS (RICHARD WHITMARSH, DIRECTOR) has about 50 CDs out. One or two have all clown "walk" type music. In the next day or two, I'll check my storage and give you the numbers of the CDs. They're about $15. each + a couple # postage.

Annie is going to use it in an up and down sequence for puppets. I will let her know about the link and your experience with this type of music. Harris
