I agree with the recommendation for Off the Cuff and also suggest On the Spot which is also by Gregory Wilson. Both are jam packed with great impromptu effects that require you to carry around next to nothing. I personally really like recap, quicksilver and the open hand coins across from On the Spot.

Once I get those down they will be my "Hey can you do something now" tricks.

Right now I do primarily card stuff so if I don't have a deck on me then I just say too bad, otherwise I will pull one out and do the ambitious card or some spiffy card to the top or bottom improv type stuff.
