Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley.

"...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us."

What's left:

2) Present about his and hers alternative taken with two teas and zero filling. (2,3,5,4) (not magic themed) (figure of speech)
12) Being in fashion is enough to make one come apart. (4,5) (illusion)

Here's a new one: 28) Opt for a new pot replacement. (3, 6)

Long shot 'cause I'm stuck:

14) side steal?

Otherwise I'm ready for another clue or two, if nobody else is playing . . .

Sorry for the delay, had a few pressing things to take care of.

#14 - incorrect, I'm afraid. Hmm, more clues.. ok, here are some more with the same solutions as my three remaining:

2) That wedding ring's not right (2,3,5,4)
12) Mixed deli month. (4,5)
14) Get lip for imposing on the lady's choice of undergarments (4,5)

#2 - correct!

Which leaves only #12 - hmm, let me try adding one word to the solution and adapting a little;

12) Mixed deli month observed gin suffix (4,5,6)

The original clue still works with the extra word:

12) Being in fashion is enough to make one come apart. (4,5,6)

Still struggling with #27.
