Looking for a recommendation for the "best" Scotch & Soda set. (manufacturer and type) If magnetic is the best way to go, I like the looks of the English Penny version.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

I would recommend the Johnson set. It can be found here http://www.mjmmagic.com/store/scotch-and......945.html

Appreciate your feedback.

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS RE S&S: It's reported the major difference between the magnetic set and the "standard" set is that the magnetic can NOT be carefully examined by the spectator because it will spin/twist in it's two parts, whereas the "standard" version, when it's firmly nested, will stand up under examination. Is this correct? If so, is there a magnetic version that can stand examination?

Thanks to anyone for your expereinced feedback.

Ron,

Great question. I have also been on the look out for a Magnetic S&S set. As a restaurant worker, somewhat difficult playing superman and vanishing to reset my current S&S.

Although it is not exactly an S&S, if you want a ma*****c gaff, you might want to look into Mark Mason's Miracle chip. It is easy to reset (no bang ring), will do pretty much the same thing as an S&S plus much more, and it is very deceptive. I sometimes have difficulty figuring out which is the gaff and which is the real casino chip, and I know the "secret".

Because of the nature of the gaff, a ma*****c S&S will always "shift" somewhat. The problem is the shifting is close to the edge. That is why coin unique and miracle chip are more appropriate for ma****ts since the stable edge is wider. PM me if you don't understand - sorry I can't be more descriptive in an open forum.

Regards,

Alan

To make sure you get a firm answer to the second part of your question, I can tell you that you do not need to worry about shifting in a non-magnetic S&S. It will stand up to thorough examination.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I have both standard and magnetic S&S.

As far as the standard goes, I bought a cheap/no-name, and it works fine. I'm not aware of any problems, or why I would want to spend more. It seems to be a standard item that many can make well. (I would not make this comment about some other gaffs)

The magnetic version also works fine, but as noted, it will spin if you are trying to make it do so, but I don't think a spectator has any reason to try that on his own. There could be some "play" with the insert, since it is not really "locking".

For each type, there is an issue of sound; they are "dead" coins.
Secondarily, an astute observer might notice the angular-alignments to not match that of a real coin.

These are issues that just take a modest amount of spectator management.
