Has you considered just being honest?
While the following approach breaks every rule of marketing (traditionally, it should all be about the prospect, not the seller), I often simply explain why I am offering the deal, from my perspective. "I will be in your area on June 10 & 11. In order to make the trip worthwhile, I really need to fill up my schedule." Up to this point, it's all about me ... and a big "Who cares?" on the part of the buyer. Here is where I would explain the special -- "So I am making a very special pricing offer ... " and continue with your offer. Now, admittedly, the verbiage here is a bit sloppy, but you get the idea. The reason for the offer is purely selfish, but the benefit they derive from it makes sense and the deadline becomes very real. |

Many performers have used it to a good end. For example thosw who do a lot of college work, will often target high schools in that area and make that exact pitch. Tell them why they are getting a deal. Plus you are not "cutting" anything, just offering things to help them get a show they may not be able to normally afford.

Good ideas guys,
Buzz- glad Donald got you caught up. Donald is one of thiose guys that seems to always knows whats going on around here- kind of spooky if you ask me LOL Starrpower I have used this idea in the past when I am touring out of state and yes it works great. the idea with this postcard is that it is advertising this new spectacular show and rolling it out full time for the 2011/12 school year. trying to get one mailing out this year and then first thing in september. I sent the ideas to my writer and she will get back to me with her final thoughts on how to word the info. I will post it here when I get it back. the post card itself is done front and back and love it maybe I will post it here if you all care to see it and maybe offer some thoughts if you want but its done for me. thanks again everyone sam

Think Bulk Mail LOL |

Keep in mind that bulk mail is not always the answer. I suspect there is already a thread here about it (Donald?), but you have to consider quantity, specifications, annual fees, and separating the mailing into ZIP codes. It MIGHT be the answer ... or it might not.

What about offering a $100 discount if they pay a $100 deposit? In other words, matiching the deposit with a discount. I never tried this, I just thought of it and I wonder what feedback anyone has on this idea. I will not use it, but it is a thought.

One comment ... and then I'll back off, because you seem to be getting some good feedback here. But, a deadline of September 30, for something you're putting in the mail now, seems a bit far off to be effective.
I would close the gap a bit with maybe an additional bonus for quick response inside 2, 3, 4 weeks. Then mail again closer to the actual deadline. Deadlines work because they motivate you to take action to avoid missing out. If you've got until September 30 - what's the rush? Just a thought - but you're certainly doing the right thing by putting a date on your card. Best of luck to you. Oscar |

Thanks for all the post
at this point I decided that I am waiting till september to mail the card out. multiple reasons one the school year is almost over and many schools are dealing with so many other things that I fear it would get lost in the shuffle two many schools are calling me for the show and I have not yet advertised it! word of mouth as brought me over 5 shows in the last 4 weeks and I have 2 more this month. so I will wait till september and this will allow me to fine tune some things as well as add some more great comments I have been receiving to both the post card and my upcoming new website I hope to have done this month or least up and running and then finish it thru out the summer so again thanks every one! sam ps if I ever figure out how to post pictures I will gladly post the post card so you can see what it is.
